We are Able, a company building products through a portfolio model, and we are looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer.

Do you enjoy the thrill of building complex full-stack solutions with ever-evolving interfaces? Would you like to create products for several industries, following our thesis of impacting the world to make it a better place for all?

Able may be the place you’ve been longing for. The one where creative and innovative projects meet with good-willing and passionate teams — plus many other perks to boot that we can offer.

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking someone that feels comfortable using Ruby and Rails, as well as JavaScript (and perhaps Typescript). Specifically, someone who’d be interested in:
  • Building server-side applications (as well as RESTful APIs) using Ruby and Rails
  • Developing client-side applications mixing React and Redux, and a dash of HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Employing testing practices to guide their code-design decisions and ensure product health through E2E suites.
  • Ensuring any application they build is secure, robust, scalable, and maintainable.
We want to work with the kind of people who have a passion for collaborating while solving problems, challenging, and nurturing relationships with their teams. The kind that is open about their shortcomings and what they do not know now, and remains eager to do whatever they need to close those gaps.

Ideally, they would also have:
  • About 4+ years of professional experience working as a software engineer (or equivalent, we are flexible)
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of our stack (as stated, Ruby, Rails, JS, and React with Redux).
  • A fair understanding of MVC architectures, as well as how to use databases and data stores such as PostgreSQL and Redis.
  • Good HTML and CSS skills for them to collaborate with designers to transform prototypes into products
  • Experience building modern, responsive and interactive web applications with frameworks such as React
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Availability: At least 6 hours of overlap with our main team’s office working hours in Lima-Perú (From 09:00am to 06:00 pm GMT-5)

Don’t think you are quite there? That’s fine too. Let’s talk and get to know you and your talents!

Why would you love to work for Able?
We believe that people, teams, and well-thought processes are more important than the ideas themselves, and we’re keen on bringing great people together while investing in their growth.

Our teams have built products in various industries, from media to finance to toys to healthcare. Sometimes we will work with management teams to help their businesses grow faster or unlock value using technology. Other times, we start or buy businesses outright. Each time, though, we will look for opportunities to leverage technology built at the portfolio-level to drive value faster and grow as a group.

And we like to put our money where our mouth is, offering great benefits to ensure you have the best experience working with us:
  • Flexible work hours and locations
  • Competitive salaries
  • English classes
  • Health insurance
  • Benefit reimbursements
  • Annual reevaluation of base compensation
  • Annual variable compensation based on individual and company performance
We know that a diverse team brings extraordinary success, and we have created a work environment geared towards work and life balance as well as happiness. Able is committed to inclusion and diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

This is but the beginning of a conversation we’d love to have with you.

Apply, and let’s get this adventure started!

We are a cloud based database company serving non-profits, mostly Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault support providers.  We are looking for a person to help with two tasks:

Data Migration

Many of our customers are switching to us from some other system.  We get data in every shape, size, format, level of complexity, and level of cleanliness that you can imagine.

We have built a special data import tool to help facilitate the data migration process.  So there's minimal writing code to teach the system that "Female" should be code 1, "Male" should be code 2.  Etc...  The tool that we've built makes that process incredibly easy.  However, knowledge of PHP and MySQL are needed to understand how that tool is working and help fill in any gaps.

What's NOT incredibly easy is being able to look at the source files coming in, understanding what that data is actually describing... looking at the way our database is structured, understanding what our database is describing... and figuring out how to get the various pieces from the previous system to ours.  It takes a lot of creativity, problem solving, and training to work out how to properly import all data with the least chance of data being lost or duplicated.

We are already fully versed in how this process works and are simply looking for additional support.  We are looking for people who are open to learning our tool and adapting to our ways of accomplishing this incredibly important task for our customers.

Strong communication skills and English ability would be a valuable asset.

PHP Developer

We are also looking to hire someone who could also help out with our general product development and debugging.

We use PHP (no framework), JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, and HTML.  That's basically it.  We intentionally keep it simple.

Our main needs revolve around building custom reports and making additional tools for importing and exporting data. But there will certainly be a very mixed bag of tasks that you'll be given.

Job Structure

You would be an independent contractor.

We are flexible on whether this would be a part time or full time position.  We would much rather focus on finding someone who was a good fit for our company than trying to find someone who can work a certain number of hours.

Applicants can be from anywhere in the world.  But we'd expect you to work some hours overlapping with our US Eastern Time schedule.

To Apply

Simply fill out our application form here:  https://forms.gle/iAxppruANc8gB4g18

We'll reach out to you within days if we feel like you could be a good fit.

We will not respond to recruiters or follow up emails.  Please no emails!!!

Headquarters: Spreedly
URL: https://www.spreedly.com/careers

Spreedly is a rapidly growing, growth private-equity funded digital payments company with headquarters located in downtown Durham, North Carolina. We've developed a high volume, global solution that makes the payment ecosystem better by bringing together a diverse range of merchants and solution providers from around the world.

Our employees help build a culture that values independence, transparency, and collaboration in a digital-first communication environment. We hope you do your best work at Spreedly and find a mature workplace striving to support the ebb and flow of work-life harmony.

Our list of "amazing functionality that customers will happily pay us for if we can just get it implemented..." is growing faster than we can check things off, and we need help from an experienced engineer that can hop into a high-functioning, experienced team and start learning and contributing quickly.

When you start at Spreedly (think first 6-12 months), you'll be spending 90%+ of your time working right on the product team building functionality for customers. Building product at Spreedly is a bit unique in that our main product is a payments API used by other developers. So while "designing a UI" may mean exactly what it sounds like (creating administrative and analytics tools), it often means thinking through how YOU would want a given API to work if you were using it. "Adding a feature for a customer" often means working through how to securely enable a developer to do something interesting with a credit card number. Super challenging and fun, we think! And since we work with credit card data on a daily basis, thinking about security is a way of life at Spreedly, as is building sustainable processes to keep that information safe (and our auditors happy).

What we're looking for in a senior engineer is somebody who's excited by jumping into pretty complex technical problems and making sense of them. We regularly deal with encryption, encoding, and security, all within the context of a distributed system. You don't have to be an expert in any of those aspects, but you should be really open to learning about them. Once you've gotten your feet under you and understand the domain well enough, we'd like you to mentor junior engineers and help them tackle the task at hand using pragmatic software practices. We're looking for people that are good at their job who are also are interested in elevating the people around them.

What We're Looking For
  • A track record of delivering well-crafted software
  • A willingness to be a generalist and the curiosity to try new things you've never done before
  • Excitement about building products for Spreedly's customers, who are primarily businesses doing commerce and their developers who are using our API's and toolkits
  • Excellent written communication skills, and a willingness to use them to document your work as necessary
  • The ability to operate autonomously, sorting your own immediate priorities out of the ever-shifting needs of a startup environment
  • Confidence in your ability to learn new tech as necessary. Today we work primarily with Ruby, Rails, Elixir, Phoenix, Riak, Kafka, Postgres, Redis, and Linux ... but are always pragmatically evaluating new languages and tools

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary
  • Outstanding medical and dental benefits (we pay 100% of monthly premiums for employees + families)
  • Life and long-term disability insurance
  • Medical and dependent care FSA
  • Optional vision insurance
  • Open PTO policy
  • Remote friendly work environment. Even our local employees are remote 3 days per week!*
  • Tues./Thurs. are in-office days for local employees - the rest of the week employees are free to work wherever they choose*
  • Paid lunches on in-office days for local employees*
  • Quarterly visits to HQ for remote employees*
  • 12 weeks paid Family Leave
  • Matching 401k plan
  • Monthly digital lifestyle stipend
  • Yearly professional development opportunities
  • *All employees are currently working fully remotely due to COVID19

We're constantly striving to have the fairest and most productive hiring process possible. We want to ensure that every candidate is treated equally and our interactions are designed with that goal in mind. If you want to get a sense for what your application process will look like, we'd encourage you to read the following: Stop Hazing Your Potential Hires and Programming Puzzles Are Not the Answer.

If this at all sounds interesting, we'd love to hear from you!

Spreedly is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. We actively work to drive out even unintentional discrimination in our hiring processes via practices like blindly graded work samples, structured interviews, and diversity awareness training.

Due to the sensitive nature of what Spreedly does- handling payment data- candidates must complete a successful background check. If you have concerns along those lines, please discuss with us sooner rather than later- we do not want you to waste time in the hiring process and get disqualified at the end if we can help it.

This position is open to candidates in the contiguous US only. We are not set up to support remote employees from CA, NY, WA or outside the contiguous US. All applicants must have a US work visa.

We appreciate your interest in our company. Because of the high volume of resume flow, we will only respond to those candidates that we think will be a potential fit.

Hireology’s technology empowers businesses to build great teams. Over the last ten years, we’ve grown from a startup to a market-leading organization with over 165 team members and built an award-winning culture that makes this company an amazing place to work.

It’s with that in mind that Hireology is looking to add a Senior Front End Engineer to our team who can help us continue to evolve our systems from where we are to the latest ideas.

Hireology is based in Chicago, but our Engineering and UX teams work remotely. In non-pandemic times, we have regular company-wide events, semi-annual team gatherings. Even in pandemic times, we have frequent celebrations when we hit our goals.

As one of our Senior Front End Engineers, you’ll be responsible for:
  • Working with the Product and User Experience team to identify new features and functionality
  • Working with Engineering teams to develop new features with HTML, JavaScript, and React on the front end, and integrating with Ruby on Rails on the back end
  • Building standalone React-based interfaces for our new Go-based services
  • Work with Engineering teams to convert mockups to working views in the application
  • Refactor HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to follow front-end standards
  • Pair with both Engineering and User Experience teams to solve problems collaboratively
  • Be passionate about growing professionally
  • Investigate new front end technologies and how they can be applied to improve the user experience
  • Manage global CSS/Sass to ensure it is clean, consistent, and efficient.

So what kind of person are we looking for in this role? We have a pretty unique culture here at Hireology, and the person who will be successful in this role will be:
  • Results-Driven: Must have a proven record of driving results in high-growth companies and must have an inner drive to succeed. You will have a desire to want to grow professionally and progress in your career.

  • Customer-Oriented: A successful Senior Front End Engineer has outstanding relationship capabilities, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Eager to Learn: Technology is ever-changing and as a Senior Front End Engineer you should have your pulse on what is new and emerging.

Okay, we’ve laid out what the job is - now are you qualified? Below are the minimum qualifications we’re looking for in a Senior Front End Engineer..
  • Four to six years of experience in a frontend software development role
  • Passion for creating great user experiences on multiple platforms, including mobile screens.
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS/Sass, responsive, and accessibility-driven development
  • Understanding of JavaScript design patterns and frameworks (in particular React)
  • Advanced experience with Node.js, npm/yarn, and webpack
  • Experience with JavaScript-based unit testing (with Jest, Jasmine, or Mocha)
  • Experienced usage of Git and Github
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Primary work location must be within the lower 48 states of the USA

Experience and/or skills with these aspects of front end development are definite plusses:
  • Progressive Web App development and maintenance
  • Advanced React.js styling systems (such as styled-system, styled-components)
  • React functional and class component development (such as Hooks and Context)
  • Client-based API interactions (such as REST, GraphQL)
  • Organized component development (such as Storybook.js)

So what can you expect after you apply? You will:
  • Take a brief true/false survey. Be sure to check your email after you apply.
  • Have a phone conversation with someone on our Recruiting team. This is a high-level conversation about you, but also a good opportunity for you to learn more about us.
  • Meet with one of our Front End Engineers to talk shop. Be prepared to talk about how you approach work technically with examples of how you have done it in the past. Bonus points if you have a personal project to walk us through.  No homework or on-the-spot assignments.
  • Go over your career history with our Vice President of Engineering. This will be an opportunity for us to get an idea of how you got to where you are, and if you want to go where we are going with us.
  • Meet virtually with more members of the Engineering team. We want to give you an idea of the people you will be working with. We ask the serious questions here, like your top three movies.
  • Provide us some references. We use our automated reference check system for this, so you just give us some names, they fill out a survey, and we are all set.
  • Speak with a member of our executive leadership team. If you have made it this far, just be yourself, and everything will be fine.

We are an equal opportunity employer and prohibit discrimination/harassment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

Headquarters: Raleigh, NC

eHungry is looking for an experienced PHP Web Application Developer to help us improve and expand our online ordering platform for restaurants.

At eHungry, we work with thousands of restaurants around the United States and Canada providing a way for customers to order online for takeout, delivery and more. We're a small, yet profitable company run by a team that loves food + technology. As a Web Application Developer, you will work directly on our most important Web and mobile applications that are used by millions of people every year (and a few animals that have learned to type).

Our technology stack includes PHP 7 (mostly vanilla), MariaDB, Redis, React and a lot of APIs. We regularly use Clubhouse, GitHub, Slack, Splunk and other tools to keep things moving forward. (Except when we use Reddit, which seems to move things backwards.) We are a 100% remote company -- some living more remote than others.

What you'll do:
•  Architect and implement new features and functionality for the online ordering Web and mobile applications (we've got a backlog of exciting projects we want to accomplish)
•  Investigate and fix bugs that like to pop up periodically so we can make our restaurants and customers happy (although it's less fun, this stuff usually takes priority)
•  Collaborate with a cool virtual team via Slack (by cool, we mean cold because some of us live pretty far north)
•  Help build and maintain the application with a few other awesome developers so it can properly take and send orders (which means whenever you have questions, you'll get the answers you need -- or at least made up answers that sound pretty good)

What we're looking for:
•  Top notch PHP development that only rarely blows up the system
•  Excellent at jumping into large existing applications with lots of legacy custom code
•  Great at being self-motivated (we don't micro-manage) and consistent in your work
•  Pretty great with Web technologies and API development (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, REST, JSON, etc.)
•  Good at managing your development tasks as well as providing clear communication and expectations
•  OK at making balloon animals
•  Big plus if you have background in e-commerce applications

What we offer:
•  Competitive pay and bonuses
•  An exciting and challenging job where you can build new skills
•  Opportunity to convert from contract to employee (depending on location)
•  Ability to play an important role in the company
•  Work/life balance (we're a strong believer in it)
•  Work remotely (well, really you have no other choice)
•  eHungry swag (<-- we know this is the real reason you want the job)
•  And lots more! (This is just to sound bigger than we really are)

eHungry is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

If this sounds remotely interesting (get it, because it's remote?), please apply here. If not interested, I recommend playing some Space Quest. (Note: This may be the last job post I'm allowed to write.)

About Us

We are a startup headquartered in beautiful downtown Asheville, NC. We are a small, close-knit team working to upend the RMM market with a new product. Our CEO and leadership team have done extensive product research and are focusing on traction channels to grow while the product is being built. Though we are a startup, our investors have given us a multi-year runway.

We have already made substantial progress towards an MVP. We need someone to come in and help build out our web app who is an experienced self-starter that can make an impact on our product development. We aren't interested in someone that just wants to work down a list of pre-defined tasks. Our ideal candidate loves working on products and will help shape the direction of ours. We hope to launch within the next couple of months and want someone to come on this journey with us.

We really like the Basecamp philosophy and try to make sure that it doesn’t have to be crazy at work. We won’t ask that you work weekends, or late into the night. We don’t mind if you need to leave for an appointment in the middle of the day. We understand that software development doesn’t happen for 8 hours straight and don’t worry about counting time in the chair. We trust that given a fair timeline with a scope that you help us determine you will be able to deliver features. We are concerned with the end goal, not micromanaging you on the way there.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Flexible time off
  • Unlimited vacation
  • Hardware, software, and services - whatever you need to do your job
  • Any books or courses that you want
  • Annual team meetup
  • Employee profit sharing

Salary: $90k to $100k /year

Note: The role will be a permanent contract for non-US citizens
