Senior Product Designer

Ingles about 12 hours

Headquarters: Remote
URL: https://automattic.com/

At Automattic, we believe in making the web a better place. We’re the people behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, Simplenote, WordPress VIP, and more, and we’re looking for seasoned Product Designers to keep the web free and open with us.

You’ll join a diverse design team and work closely with engineers, marketers, and customer support from around the world in a fully remote company to create products that make online publishing and commerce accessible to everyone.

What you’ll do
  • Design exceptional products from start to finish, participating in all phases of design, from definition to development and optimization.
  • Iterate actively with prototypes at all levels of design fidelity, informed by user research, market trends, and business goals.
  • Communicate and share often in written, verbal, and visual forms to create alignment and move the work towards implementation.
  • Collaborate regularly with engineers to ship high-quality experiences.
  • Contribute to both Automattic products and the larger open source and design communities.

What we are looking for
  • A keenness for identifying user needs, defining clear solutions, and delivering those through detailed design.
  • The flexibility to design in low and high fidelity and choose the most efficient and responsible process for the job at hand.
  • The ability to integrate feedback, validate, and iterate on our products while being mindful of our customers, contributors, and insights gleaned by our support teams.
  • The ability to connect business strategies, available technologies, and design solutions to deliver best-in-class user experiences.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills — you’ll be collaborating with others and presenting your work regularly.
  • A proficiency in design and prototyping tools and familiarity with development.
  • A genuine interest and familiarity with some of our products and the open source community.
  • Familiarity with remote work (or excitement to try it!).

How we work
We’re a global, distributed workforce in over 70 countries. We value open source, prioritize transparent communication, believe that good ideas can (and do) come from anywhere, so we encourage Automatticians to work together across positions and roles. Together we create, develop, and care for a collection of digital products and services that are committed to democratizing publishing and commerce.
  • We’re kind to each other and our users – we strive to build a positive, supportive, and inclusive culture of cohesive teams focused on delivering value to our customers.
  • We have no set hours, or expectation that you’re online from 9 to 5. You create a schedule that allows you to get your best work done.
  • We travel sometimes to meet up and work together.*
  • We welcome collaboration, and you can be involved in any discussion across our many communication channels. Here’s more about what we expect from ourselves.

*REGARDING COVID-19 AND TRAVEL: The current pandemic is a rapidly changing situation. Automattic is monitoring government and health agency reports closely, and responding however possible to prioritize safety and well-being for our team members and communities. Currently all company travel has been suspended.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion at Automattic
We’re improving diversity in the tech industry. At Automattic, we want people to love their work and show respect and empathy to all. We welcome differences and strive to increase participation from traditionally underrepresented groups. Our DEI committee involves Automatticians across the company and drives grassroots change. For example, this group has helped facilitate private online spaces for affiliated Automatticians to gather and helps run a monthly DEI People Lab series for further learning. DEI is a priority at Automattic, though our dedication influences far more than just Automatticians: We make our products freely available and translate our products into and offer customer support in numerous languages. We require unconscious bias training for our hiring teams and ensure our products are accessible across different bandwidths and devices. Learn more about our dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion and our Employee Resource Groups.

How to Apply
If you’d like to apply, send us your portfolio or samples of your work, your resume, and brief answers to the following:
  • Tell us why you’re interested in working at Automattic.

Product Designer

Ingles 1 day

Headquarters: Lincoln, NE
URL: https://companycam.com

Hi, we're CompanyCam

We create simple-to-use, visual-first communication and accountability tools for contractors. Imagine a B2B SaaS app that doesn’t look like garbage, built by a team of capable, laid back people.

The Role

We're looking for sharp, self-motivated, kind, problem-solving Product Designers to join our team. You'll use your experience and expertise in shipping well-designed and successful SaaS apps (not just websites) to help CompanyCam succeed.

We're not looking for one-trick ponies either. We need holistic Product Designers: you'll do user research, UX design, UI design, interaction design, microcopy, and HTML+CSS writing while keeping both user and business goals in mind. We know it's a broad role so don't worry if you're not an expert in all those things (we like T-shaped designers). You'll also be working alongside a talented team of Product Designers who deeply care to help each other grow as holistic Product Designers.

To give you and idea of what you'd be doing day-to-day, here are some things we have worked on recently:

  • Built an experience for multiple companies to collaborate on projects in CompanyCam.
  • Worked in collaboration with marketing designers to rethink brand colors that can be useful to both marketing and product design teams.
  • Published design tokens for use in our mobile and web apps (size, color, spacing, etc.).
  • Created the ability for users to create custom photo reports in the mobile app (previously was only available in our web app).
  • Researched and implemented the ability for users to use CompanyCam projects and photos on their own company website to promote their work.
  • Started a design system to provide Product Designers/Engineers with tools to build faster and share a common design language.

Why CompanyCam?

Did you wake up this morning with a burning desire to create apps for contractors? No? I didn’t think so. I admit, it’s not something one thinks about without some prompting. But bear with me for a moment...

Contractors are everywhere. They build our homes, they literally put roofs over our heads, they wire up our electricity, give us access to the internet, fix our plumbing and AC, paint our homes…the list goes on.

At CompanyCam, you’ll work with intelligent, kind people to make contractors' work easier. You'll create time for them so they can get shit done and spend more time with their families. Sound corny? You’ll find that midwesterner ethos permeate our culture (we’re based in Lincoln, NE), so if you can’t hang with that, no hard feelings, but this probably isn’t the role for you.

Working at CompanyCam

Our Product and Engineering departments do things a little differently.

We use Basecamp’s Shape Up method (fused with empowered product teams a la Marty Cagan's Inspired) to organize and execute our work. That means you’ll work in a close-knit team consisting of a Product Manager, a Product Designer, and other Engineers on an area of the product in 6-week cycles. During cycles you'll spend about 60% of your time discovering (alongside your team) what CompanyCam should build and 40% of your time bringing those things to life. After each cycle you’ll get a 1-2 week cool-down where you’ll pursue educational opportunities, work on pet projects, or tweak some user experiences that have been nagging at you.

Sounds nice, right? No sprinting, no scrumming, no death by 1,000 meetings. We protect our designers' time, treat them like adults, and trust them to get their work done. We’re also big on not overworking people. Put in your eight hours of focused, quality work and then TURN. SLACK. OFF. No nights and weekends.

Our larger company culture is also refreshingly chill. We have fun, learn from each other, and don’t take ourselves too seriously.

We cover the important stuff too. We pay well, offer unlimited vacation, meaningful equity, health insurance, and other benefits. If you're local or down to move, we’re custom remodeling a new office space in the Lincoln Haymarket area that you’ll love. If you're remote (most of the engineering team is), we’re well set up with great conference room video equipment so you'll feel like you’re there with us, and once life is back to normal we’ll fly you in a few times a year to hang out.

What We Ask of You

You must…

  • Show up: give us your best and have the courage to do difficult but necessary stuff.
  • Grow up: take responsibility, learn continuously, and have a growth mindset.
  • Do good: treat your co-workers and customers the way you want to be treated.
  • Have experience and expertise in user research, UX design, UI design, interaction design, microcopy, and HTML+CSS with a strong portfolio of real, shipped apps.
  • Code. Currently, our designers write most of our CSS/Sass, while working directly in React and/or React Native. This goes beyond "working knowledge". You need to be comfortable writing production CSS.
  • Be a great communicator: you "work in the open", don't take critique personally, and can solicit, manage, and appropriately respond to feedback from stakeholders, users, and fellow designers.
  • Reside permanently and currently somewhere in the continental USA. Alas, we're not set up to hire designers outside of the US.
It'd be nice if you…

  • Have experience working with styled-components.
  • Live in Lincoln, NE or are interested in relocating (we'd provide assistance).
  • Have experience working in a Product-led Growth environment (or B2C environment) and can leverage that experience here.

How to Apply

Hit the apply button to tell us about yourself and about what you can bring to CompanyCam. We also want to see a portfolio that shows your best work and the process of how you got there. We'd prefer to see real, shipped apps over hypothetical projects to judge your ability, but if you can wow us with something else – that's fine. Just make sure you highlight your thought process and decision making.

We're accepting applications until Friday, January 29th, 2020 at 10PM US-Central time. There is no benefit to applying early, so take your time.

What happens next?

We will review all the applications and you should hear from us by February 5th about advancing to the interview stage – which will be all remote and include a small design challenge.

We're hoping to make an offer in February with a start date in March.

Think you're a good fit? 👇

Product Design Lead

Ingles 9 days

Headquarters: New York
URL: http://www.float.com

About the Role

We are looking to hire a Product Design Lead. You’ll be responsible for designing Float’s user experience across our family of products, leading with our desktop application and mobile apps. To achieve this, you’ll partner closely with two seasoned Product Managers, a team of talented Engineers, and our CEO. You’ll have a solid foundation to build on, with an existing Style Guide crafted over several years, Sketch files and a library of past and current designs. You’ll consider this a starting point, not a constraint to our future design direction.

Partnering with our Marketing Lead, you’ll lead the direction of our marketing asset design and supporting collateral. It’s from this work, that you’ll start to shape and refine the Float Brand Guide. You may decide this is an ongoing iterative process, or at some stage, a rebrand is in order - these will be your decisions to make. We release features every 6 week cycle, followed by a 2-week planning and catch up cycle. During these phases our Product Managers will provide you with feature briefs and collaborate early on, ideating during our discovery phases and building a case for your design choices with supporting data. You’ll ensure your concepts are seen through to execution, providing feedback and continuing to tighten up concepts during development.

Last but not least, you’ll drive Product Design innovation at Float, carving out opportunities to experiment with new tools and design approaches, ensuring we’re at the forefront when it comes to faster and more visual ways, for teams to plan time.

This role does not have a Management component. You’ll have the opportunity to scale the Product Design team as Float continues to grow.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone with experience designing desktop user experiences at scale. You’ve been doing just this for at least five years, in companies that are either SaaS, B2B-focused or in the consumer productivity space.

You can demonstrate how you’ve made customers more productive by your design decisions - whether it be visualizing complex data sets, or simplifying typically convoluted workflows. You delight in the details, able to impress a creative customer base, that for us, including more than 3,000 agencies and studios across the globe. Above all, you love the craft of design, preferring few meetings, allowing for long stretches dedicated to the work. You spend most of your time in Sketch or Figma (We use Sketch today, but are open to either). You may have some coding experience to demonstrate interactions, but this isn’t mandatory - we have folks on the team that can help.

You possess excellent writing skills, comfortable communicating ideas in a predominantly asynchronous environment. When required, you’ll jump on a Zoom to help convey or workshop an idea more effectively.
Perhaps you’re currently part of a larger team within an established SaaS and are looking for an opportunity to carve your own path, and have a greater impact on a growing team and an industry-leading product.

Benefits

The salary range for this role is US $120-$140K. Compensation is benchmarked using 50th percentile San Francisco market salaries, with a cost-of-living index applied to your location. We assess your level during the interview process. If you are outside the US, you’ll be hired as a Contractor. We have a range of expanding and improving perks that you’ll have access to including:
  • Home office expense budget: We help you kickstart or upgrade your home office setup.
  • Co-working expense budget: A budget for when you'd like to work out of home.
  • Annual team meetup: We get together as a full team every year, the last two were in Athens and Lisbon. We will continue this tradition when the time is right.
  • Care for your community. Two days a year for you to support with your time, or donate with your wage, for a local charity of your choosing.
  • Team liquidity pool: Rewarding our team if there's ever an exit

If you’re in the US, we pay 50% of your medical, dental & vision coverage, including partners and children. We encourage people of different locations, backgrounds and perspectives. Due to the specific requirements of the role, we’re looking for someone with at least two hours cross-over with Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

About the Process

Post will be open until January 29th. We will be in touch with eligible candidates starting Monday, 18th January with a view to secure a start-date to kick off in February 2021.

Senior UI/Systems Designer

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Los Angeles
URL: https://www.instagram.com/speechifyapp/

Speechify is the easiest way to listen to the world’s information. Articles on the web, documents in the cloud, books on your phone—we absorb the world’s content and help our members listen to it on the go, at their own speed, with tools that make learning easier, deeper, and faster.

Or, put another way: what Spotify has done for audio entertainment we’re doing for audio information. And whatever we’re doing seems to be working: we’re #1 in our category, profitable, and have hockey-stick growth.

The Speechify design team is small but scaling fast. We have two product designers, a PT art director, a deeply opinionated iOS dev, and some Chrome FE’s with great instincts. But we need a senior UI designer to help us recompile our systems. Someone to take charge of cleaning up 18 months of UI sins and create simple, elegant components that we can use across our iOS, Chrome, and (soon) Android apps. A typographic obsessive. A color savant. An 8pt-nudge preset in Figma.

This is a key role and ideal for someone who’s either worked at a startup and built a design system from scratch, or someone parachuting out of a big company that wants to get deeply involved in UI handiwork again.

Some of the things you’ll do:

  • Refine our UI across iOS, Chrome, desktop, and Android
  • Work with product designers, engineers, and PMs to develop UI for new products
  • Raise the aesthetic bar, even as you work to make our UI disappear
  • Influence our process and help shape the design org

To succeed here, you’ll need:

  • Experience. You’ve built design systems and harmonized UI components across mobile, desktop, and the browser.
  • Craft. You excel at typography, color, hierarchy, composition, and information design. You have a keen sense of micro-interactions and what's feasible in iOS, Android, and Javascript. It's likely you know SwiftUI and can simulate animations and events.
  • Systems thinking. You work across platforms even as you solve for one platform. Your output is carefully constructed with Figma variants, components, and libraries.
  • Moxy. You’re curious, expressive, and know-how to engage those around you to draw out insights and ideas to boost your product opinions.
  • Speed. You work quickly to generate ideas and options and know how to decide which things can ship now and what things need time.
  • Focus. We’re a high-growth startup with a busy, remote team. You know how and when to engage or be heads down.
  • Collaboration. You know how to inspire, play, and negotiate with opinionated product designers, engineers, and PMs.
  • Words. We’re not expecting Dave Eggers or David Foster Wallace, but you can write with clarity and conviction.
  • To live in a North American time zone. We’re a remote company with a global crew, but this role is designed to operate within ET-PT time zones.

We offer:

  • A fast-growing environment where you can help shape the culture
  • An entrepreneurial crew that supports risk, intuition, and hustle
  • A hands-off approach so you can focus and do your best work
  • The opportunity to make an impact in a transformative industry
  • A competitive salary, a collegiate atmosphere, and a commitment to building a great asynchronous culture

Think you’re suited for this job? Drop us an email with a short intro about yourself, links to your portfolio and LinkedIn, and thoughts about why you’re interested in the role. hiring@getspeechify.com with the subject line: UI/Systems Designer

The Role
For this role, we’re on the lookout for someone with a vested interest in helping other designers find their own groove. We named it “Design Lead” for a reason, and we invite you to take that literally. We do product design, so your comprehension of what it takes to get digital products out the door is our first non-negotiable. Beyond that, you’ve established yourself as someone people look up to, and you don’t take that privilege lightly. You’ll still deal in pixels, but you’ll also play an integral role in a project’s success with clear direction, leadership, guidance, and encouragement. You believe that good ideas can come from anywhere, and you actively support your team in making sure everyone is heard.

- Respectfully decline the status quo and push both clients and colleagues outside their comfort zones.
- Work with Producers and Client Partners to scope project requirements.

- A portfolio that reflects your strengths in both UX and visual design skills.
- A natural inclination to take the lead and help everyone arrive at a deeper understanding and greater appreciation of the work.
- Fluent in translating stakeholder goals, user research, and complex user flows into simple UIs.
- Addicted to staying ahead of desktop and mobile best practices, developments and trends in web, mobile and iOS design.
- Communication pro, with the ability to deliver compelling design rationales in both client and internal contexts.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and client briefs that lead to more questions than answers.

Our ideal candidate will have experience designing in Figma, or other design tools like Adobe Illustrator, and will have an exciting portfolio showcasing their visual design work.

How our team works

We are a fully remote team who largely works in an autonomous way; this allows room for creativity from you as the designer. In illustration briefs, we’ll give you either a summary of the content/communication or the actual copy, as well as any initial design thoughts we have, and you’d be able to take it from there. We want to see what you can do! After a first draft, you’ll work collaboratively with our communications team on any iterations required until everyone feels that the work represents our brand voice and the concept at hand.

On the note of brand voice, we work within a designated color palette and consistent set of style guidelines. We also already have a library of illustration assets/graphics that can be repurposed for designs you can create moving forward, so you won’t always have to start from scratch. That being said, we’re always open to new, creative design ideas to evolve our brand.

Responsibilities

This is a part time role requiring around 15 hours of work per week. Here’s what typical week of deliverables looks like:

  • 3 post header images

  • Infographics, GIFs, or other interactive visual content as needed

Skills & Experience

  • You are a master at time management and never miss a deadline
  • You have excellent communication skills
  • You are able to create visually appealing illustrations according to a style guide
  • You have an excellent handle on typography, layout, and color
  • You are creative and skilled in a visual design software
  • You can take minimal guidance and run with it
  • You work quickly and efficiently to get the job done
  • (Bonus) You have experience creating GIFs and animations from scratch as well as animating existing assets

Perks:

  • Work from home (we’re a fully distributed team with members in NYC, Lisbon, and more)
  • Flexible hours (you set your own schedule)
  • Occasional in-person team retreats (public health guidelines permitting)
  • Work on an awesome product that’s innovating in the online education space and teaching people modern design skills all over the globe

How to apply

Apply via our applications page by 18:00 ET on Friday January 15th

We’ll contact you to let you know whether we’re moving forward with your application by the end of Friday January 22nd.

Product Designer

Ingles 14 days

Headquarters: San Francisco, USA
URL: https://www.trychameleon.com

We believe individuals are so much more than their labels, and encourage candidates from all walks of life (all genders, ethnicities, ages, educational backgrounds, sexual orientations etc.) as we strive to build a diverse team. If you’re unsure, just apply!

Hi, nice to meet you 👋🏽. My name is Pulkit, one of the co-founders of Chameleon. We started Chameleon to make user onboarding more delightful. It’s working, and as our product team grows, we need someone with great design skills to help shape the next generation of our product.

Are you interested in building software for product teams at great SaaS companies, like Mixpanel, Moz, Degreed, and Highspot? Do you want to influence the experience of millions of end users worldwide? Do you want to work on hard problems with smart people that trust you and value what you bring to the table?

Chameleon is a platform for product success; our customers build in-product experiences (like banners, modals, tooltips, walkthroughs, spotlights, widgets, microsurveys etc.) inside their web apps without writing any code, using Chameleon.

This helps users adopt and use more of the software that’s built, and helps provide product teams a simple way to engage their users. We’re essentially increasing the efficiency of products!

We’re a small team of ~10 people, have a remote-first culture, are profitable, have hundreds of customers, and serve tens of millions of Experiences each month, around the world.

We’re looking for a mid-level product designer who wants to dive into crafting the simplest way to let our customers build complex in-product Experiences. You’ll work on our “Builder” platform and our dashboard application.

This type of software is completely new and so there are some interesting design challenges of creating something without direct precedent. That’s balanced with designing common SaaS functionality (e.g. user management, analytics, setup etc.) in an elegant and frictionless way.

You will become an expert on how to help others create effective UX; shape our roadmap in this hot new space; influence the design culture of a young team; and build the design systems that will be used for the next phase of our growth.

The role (what you’ll do)
  • Manage and execute the design process

    • Review, discuss, and prioritize the key problems we should solve

    • Conduct research and ideate solutions to these problems

    • Help define user stories

    • Create wireframes and hi-fidelity prototypes to showcase solutions

    • Refine designs and prepare them for engineering

    • Help test and review delivered stories

  • Conduct specific user research projects, including beta programmes

  • Influence/direct marketing design (e.g. website)

  • Help improve and refine Chameleon’s brand personality

Your skills (what we expect)
  • 3+ years as a full-time product design experience, ideally at a SaaS company

  • 1+ years of startup (<50 employees) experience

  • 1+ years of full-time remote work experience

  • Great at independent research (e.g. exploring other similar products, conducting user interviews)

  • Receptive to feedback and iteration

  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Builder/owner mindset (independent, comfortable with building processes and systems)

  • Good written and verbal communication skills (clear, succinct, direct)

Other requirements
  • You have a fully functioning home office / quiet place to work (and take calls) with a high-speed internet connection

  • This is your full-time job (no other part-time roles)

  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English

Our ways of working
  • Remote-first team; we give you independence over your working hours and trust your commitment to your work, your teammates, and your customers

  • Reporting to Pulkit Agrawal (Co-founder & CEO)

  • Working closely with the full team, including Brian (Co-founder & CTO), Dana (PM) and Jess (ex-designer and consultant)

  • Tools you will use: Figma, Zeplin, Tailwind UI, Airtable, Slack, G Suite, Notion, Zoom, Loom, Mixpanel, Intercom, Chameleon, Typeform

Benefits

Senior UI designer

Ingles 19 days

Headquarters: United Kingdom
URL: https://wordwall.net

We’re looking for someone with outstanding interface design skills who can join our team and create a frictionless user experience. You’ll be proficient at drawing user flow diagrams, wireframes and mock-ups. You’ll work closely with developers to execute agreed page designs, but you’ll be competent with HTML/CSS yourself. You will understand common visual design conventions and be able to draw on the examples set by other highly usable websites and apps.

We take an evidence-based approach to UX, so experience in conducting usability studies or configuring A/B tests using Google Optimize, would be desirable. You will be comfortable in the role of user advocate.

You will have at least three years experience in a web design role with at least one year’s experience taking specific responsibility for interface design on a high traffic site or mobile app.

Wordwall.net automates the process of resource design, so teachers can simply enter the content that is appropriate for their class – a list of keywords, definitions, questions or images. It then produces the content in over 60 different templates; for example, game-show quizzes, crosswords, labelled diagrams and arcade games.

We seek to disrupt the publisher-driven model of paid-for “professionally” made educational content, by putting high-quality content creation in the hands of teachers and making that teacher-made content, freely accessible through our online community.

We are a small team with big ambitions, who work remotely across the world. Our 25 million monthly users are rapidly proliferating. We’ve got a product that works and we’re building for the long-term. We want people who want to stick around, grow with us and help make games-based learning accessible to all.

We value diversity within our team. We support flexible working arrangements - full or part time.

Real applicants only - please do not contact us if you represent an agency.

Requirements

  • Outstanding user interface design skills
  • Minimum 3 years experience with specific UX / UI experience
  • Able to self-organise and motivate when working remotely

Benefits

Salary £40-50k per year

100% remote & flexible working
