Senior UI/Systems Designer

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Los Angeles
URL: https://www.instagram.com/speechifyapp/

Speechify is the easiest way to listen to the world’s information. Articles on the web, documents in the cloud, books on your phone—we absorb the world’s content and help our members listen to it on the go, at their own speed, with tools that make learning easier, deeper, and faster.

Or, put another way: what Spotify has done for audio entertainment we’re doing for audio information. And whatever we’re doing seems to be working: we’re #1 in our category, profitable, and have hockey-stick growth.

The Speechify design team is small but scaling fast. We have two product designers, a PT art director, a deeply opinionated iOS dev, and some Chrome FE’s with great instincts. But we need a senior UI designer to help us recompile our systems. Someone to take charge of cleaning up 18 months of UI sins and create simple, elegant components that we can use across our iOS, Chrome, and (soon) Android apps. A typographic obsessive. A color savant. An 8pt-nudge preset in Figma.

This is a key role and ideal for someone who’s either worked at a startup and built a design system from scratch, or someone parachuting out of a big company that wants to get deeply involved in UI handiwork again.

Some of the things you’ll do:

  • Refine our UI across iOS, Chrome, desktop, and Android
  • Work with product designers, engineers, and PMs to develop UI for new products
  • Raise the aesthetic bar, even as you work to make our UI disappear
  • Influence our process and help shape the design org

To succeed here, you’ll need:

  • Experience. You’ve built design systems and harmonized UI components across mobile, desktop, and the browser.
  • Craft. You excel at typography, color, hierarchy, composition, and information design. You have a keen sense of micro-interactions and what's feasible in iOS, Android, and Javascript. It's likely you know SwiftUI and can simulate animations and events.
  • Systems thinking. You work across platforms even as you solve for one platform. Your output is carefully constructed with Figma variants, components, and libraries.
  • Moxy. You’re curious, expressive, and know-how to engage those around you to draw out insights and ideas to boost your product opinions.
  • Speed. You work quickly to generate ideas and options and know how to decide which things can ship now and what things need time.
  • Focus. We’re a high-growth startup with a busy, remote team. You know how and when to engage or be heads down.
  • Collaboration. You know how to inspire, play, and negotiate with opinionated product designers, engineers, and PMs.
  • Words. We’re not expecting Dave Eggers or David Foster Wallace, but you can write with clarity and conviction.
  • To live in a North American time zone. We’re a remote company with a global crew, but this role is designed to operate within ET-PT time zones.

We offer:

  • A fast-growing environment where you can help shape the culture
  • An entrepreneurial crew that supports risk, intuition, and hustle
  • A hands-off approach so you can focus and do your best work
  • The opportunity to make an impact in a transformative industry
  • A competitive salary, a collegiate atmosphere, and a commitment to building a great asynchronous culture

Think you’re suited for this job? Drop us an email with a short intro about yourself, links to your portfolio and LinkedIn, and thoughts about why you’re interested in the role. hiring@getspeechify.com with the subject line: UI/Systems Designer

Design Lead

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Vancouver, Canada & Victoria, Canada

The Role
For this role, we’re on the lookout for someone with a vested interest in helping other designers find their own groove. We named it “Design Lead” for a reason, and we invite you to take that literally. We do product design, so your comprehension of what it takes to get digital products out the door is our first non-negotiable. Beyond that, you’ve established yourself as someone people look up to, and you don’t take that privilege lightly. You’ll still deal in pixels, but you’ll also play an integral role in a project’s success with clear direction, leadership, guidance, and encouragement. You believe that good ideas can come from anywhere, and you actively support your team in making sure everyone is heard.

Your responsibilities
- Guide the design process throughout the project, as well as dig into wires alongside your team.
- Drive client presentations and discussions of your team’s work.
- Respectfully decline the status quo and push both clients and colleagues outside their comfort zones.
- Work with Producers and Client Partners to scope project requirements.
- Help promote an inspiring and inclusive environment for the team.

The must-have shortlist
- 5+ years of product design experience at a digital product agency or consultancy, ideally in a lead role.
- Demonstrated mastery of UI/UX principles, best practices, and common design tools (read: Figma). Bonus points for interaction design skills (think After Effects, Principle, or Framer).
- A portfolio that reflects your strengths in both UX and visual design skills.
- A natural inclination to take the lead and help everyone arrive at a deeper understanding and greater appreciation of the work.
- Fluent in translating stakeholder goals, user research, and complex user flows into simple UIs.
- Addicted to staying ahead of desktop and mobile best practices, developments and trends in web, mobile and iOS design.
- Communication pro, with the ability to deliver compelling design rationales in both client and internal contexts.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and client briefs that lead to more questions than answers.
- Motivated by feedback, and by the opportunity to improve in your role, in the work, and in how you work together as a team.

Who we are:

Pixel Union and Out of the Sandbox are leading designers of premium themes and apps for the Shopify ecommerce platform. We’re focused on helping our merchants — entrepreneurs, innovators, brands, and businesses large and small — succeed by providing them with the world’s best digital products, backed by exceptional customer support.

We are a team of 90+ across all departments, with headquarters in Victoria, BC, and remote team members distributed across Canada and beyond.

About the role:

Pixel Union is looking for an experienced front-end developer to join our Apps team. We're looking for someone who has an eye for the details that can make or break a stand out UX, and is comfortable helping their team put all of the pieces together. If you are looking to build products used by thousands of people and make an impact on their businesses, this could be the role for you!

Success in the role requires a high degree of flexibility and adaptability, a passion for both the practice and the principles of software development, a deep knowledge of front-end development technologies, and a desire to work closely with other developers and designers on the team to ensure all of our apps live up to Pixel Union’s reputation for industry-leading quality.

At Pixel Union we believe that working collaboratively is the best way to write code. We do so through pairing and thoughtful code review - we’re comfortable explaining the thinking behind their technical choices and the tradeoffs considered when making them.

As a Pixel Union dev, you'll...

  • Contribute to all aspects of front-end development for our Apps, primarily in React
  • Contribute to design & planning discussions, ensuring the usability & technical feasibility of early-stage designs
  • Provide recommendations and write documentation on architectural best practices for frontend architecture in our apps, developing reusable libraries for future use
  • Integrate and collaborate with full stack developers in implementing solutions
  • Learn and apply new technologies and techniques that best address the problems at hand
  • Constantly seek new ways to improve our development process and practices, sharing knowledge with the team
  • Participate in research activities to identify growth opportunities for our apps, turning these opportunities into real products
  • Grow our development team’s skills with coaching, support and insight

Requirements

You'll use your skills and experience in...
  • Writing well-architected HTML, CSS/SCSS and JavaScript/ES6
  • Developing for React, using libraries that best solve the problems at hand
  • Leading teams to meet objectives, communicating opinions and perspectives on necessary work and getting assistance from others to get that work done
  • Working effectively in an agile, self-organizing team environment, regularly making goal-oriented decisions on the most impactful areas to contribute
  • Collaboratively solving problems and sharing knowledge with others when solutions are found, advocating for the best solutions and reasoning behind decisions
  • Leaving things better than you found them - advocating for improvements to the team’s practices, processes, and tools, to help us reliably deliver quality results
  • Holding context on complex solutions, thinking critically about adapting architecture with new learnings, identifying opportunities to improve along the way
  • Developing team members’ skills & knowledge in the work, through tools such as pairing, code review, mentorship
  • Working fluently with version control (Git)

If you have these skills that's a huge plus!
  • Developing on the Shopify platform, or Liquid (Shopify’s templating language)
  • Developing interfaces with accessibility in mind
  • Designing interfaces with the help of a design system, such as Shopify Polaris
  • Developing for ecommerce on different platforms - Wordpress, BigCommerce, etc.
  • Writing for common frontend JavaScript libraries such as Gatsby, Vue.js, or Angular
  • Interest in learning & writing functional code with Elixir
Please include a cover letter with your application – we’d love to better understand your background and experiences. We value diverse perspectives and believe that skills are transferable!

Aplicar Guardar

Passionate .Net Developer

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Scotland
URL: https://happyporch.com/

Looking for a flexible, remote role where you are part of an enthusiastic and committed team?

Role

You will be an important member of our distributed development team. You will be working extremely closely with our amazing, long term clients and be involved in all aspects of projects including requirements gathering, contributing to architectural decisions, planning and prioritisation and throughout the development process.

You will be working remotely as part of a small team of 10 spread across Scotland, England, several other countries across Europe and beyond. Working on a distributed team takes a high level of motivation and the ability to self- manage. You will also be communicating with clients directly. This requires excellent written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with both technical and non-technical people.

You
  • are keen to take responsibility and use your experience, ideas and energy to help drive success
  • enjoy solving problems and are constantly looking to learn and improve
  • are willing to be measured by your output and the value you bring, not the hours you log
  • are outstanding at communicating both verbally and in written English (and more than tech-speak!)
  • are detail oriented and meticulous about quality
  • understand how important good, disciplined process is; in software development as well as communication and project management
The ideal person will bring the correct mindset, ability to learn and adapt along with as wide a range of technical experience as possible, we therefore encourage applications from the right candidates regardless of age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief or race.

Please find more information on how we are working to become a more diverse team here and most recently here.

Technology

You need to:
  • have excellent experience of web development
  • be experienced in C# and ASP.NET MVC
  • have an understanding of frontend coding (HTML/CSS and JS)
  • be comfortable using GIT
Experience of any of the following would also be an advantage: API development, Actor Model (e.g. Akka), React, TypeScript, Azure DevOps. Although experience of these is definitely not required, an interest in learning is.

The role is 100% remote (within 3hrs of UK time) and there is a lot of flexibility.

You will bring your experience, ideas and energy to the role. As part of a small, fun team you will be much more than just another cog in the wheel. There is an opportunity to further develop your technical & leadership skills.

Purpose

A key part of our purpose is to contribute in a positive way to the world around us. Our commitment to value beyond profit is more than just talk, for example we are members of 1% for the Planet and currently waiting for our BCorp certification to be confirmed. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to our ‘pro-bono’ projects that have societal value. This might include open source development, charity projects or training and assisting other organisations. A great example is our ongoing work with PovNet.

Transparency

We run on self management principles.  This does not mean a completely flat hierarchy, any group of humans will have leaders. It does mean that we all input into how the company is run and everyone is invited to get involved and take on the level of responsibility that suits each of us. It also means that leadership is much more fluid than in a traditional company hierarchy.

We provide a lot of support and coaching to help you thrive in this environment and thus to do great work. Although it can be challenging, it is incredibly rewarding to be part of.

Unlimited holidays

We really mean this, it’s not just a throw-away phrase nor does it mean taking less holidays. For permanent roles the minimum is 28 days annually and, so long as the work gets done, we encourage as much other time away as possible.

Location & Hours

This role is remote, much of the time you can work from anywhere – well almost – anywhere within 3 hours of the UK timezone. We are more interested in results than micromanaging which means we are very happy to talk about flexibility in your working hours. Some of our team enjoy a very structured day, others flex their work around family commitments.

We are privileged to have always been 100% remote, which gave us one less thing to cope with during 2020. The distributed nature of our team is one of our major advantages. However, we do not shy away from the challenges involved either.

Twice each year (well, in non-pandemic years) we meet-up for up to a week to work together. Recent locations have included Morocco, Madeira, Bulgaria and Scotland. As well as being really useful it is a lot of fun, so we do all we can to help everyone join if possible.

Orum connects sales teams to their target prospects efficiently, helping them sell to their ideal customers. Admissions Rep

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Remote
URL: https://trydesignlab.com

Designlab is looking for a talented Admissions Rep to help us expand our rapidly-growing online education platform. Think one part career advisor, one part guide to all things product design, and one part salesperson. You’ll be the first point of contact for people looking to change their careers, so while this role is sales focused, we also require someone with a high level of emotional intelligence to nurture future students towards their full potential and optimal career path.

We're a nimble, product-driven team focused on building the best experience in the world for creative skills training, and thousands of students across the globe have already advanced their skills and changed careers with our help.

Our mission is to empower creators to do the work they love, and this extends to our internal philosophy of how we work. Thanks to our best-in-class product with rave reviews, we’ve built a passionate community of students, mentors and alumni, and we’d like to expand our focus on admissions to hit our next level of scale.

The right candidate has a strong working knowledge of the design industry and past experience to back it up - a background in education is also a plus. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial and self-directed, and can work well in an unstructured environment. While we’re primarily looking at someone with an admissions background, we’ll consider candidates who’ve developed exceptional interpersonal skills through other roles like account management or customer success. Ultimately, we’re looking for someone who can take a consultative approach to sales, and advise potential students on what their best options would be in switching careers to UX design.

We’re also interested in someone who’s capable of extending their presence from initial point of contact to acting as a community resource for enrolled students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the main point of contact for potential students who are looking to enroll in UX Academy, and participate in our student community in Slack.
  • Host webinar info sessions, handle calls and emails about our courses, and follow up with interested students.
  • Meet and exceed monthly goals for enrollments.
  • Maintain our high standard of quality by only making offers to qualified students.
  • Track activities in our CRM, and keep other team members updated on relevant customer stories, feedback, and product opportunities.

The Successful Candidate Will:

Skills and abilities:

  • Have strong organizational skills, with an ability to (re)prioritize at a moment’s notice.
  • Be analytical, process and data-driven, with a creative mindset and strong problem solving skills.
  • Be enthusiastic about genuinely connecting with people, and supporting them with making big decisions about their future.
  • Be a persuasive writer who’s comfortable communicating through email.
  • Have fantastic interpersonal skills—someone who’s able to confidently connect with a student over the phone (even after multiple calls back to back).
  • Be able to juggle many balls without letting anything fall through the cracks by making sure that everyone is responded to in a timely manner. If the thought of your job being a real life version of Overcooked stresses you out, this is probably not the role for you!
  • Have a strong understanding and ability to act upon the urgency around prospective students.
  • Think about the wider context of both the product and user’s individual situation when communicating.
  • Take the time to go the extra mile when it comes to communicating with students, and members of the wider community.

Essential Skills

  • Keen attention to detail, including in regards to copy editing and email formatting.
  • A 3+ year track record of successful admissions/account management/sales experience.
  • Top notch communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Past experience and knowledge of the design industry (agency or product) is preferred.
  • Remote work experience isn't necessary, but a plus.
  • The hours for this role will be US Pacific (GMT -8) - you do not have to reside within that timezone but should expect to have student calls as such.

Perks

  • Competitive salary and equity compensation
  • Team is 100% remote, work where you want
  • Generous paid vacation policy
  • Health & dental benefits
  • Choose your own Mac setup
  • Work with a talented, mission-driven team on a product that’s innovating in the online education space with thousands of paying customers around the world

Part-time Visual Designer/Illustrator

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Remote
URL: https://trydesignlab.com

Designlab is seeking a visual designer/illustrator to help us tell visual stories that educate and inspire our UI/UX design students and readers.

We're a nimble, product-driven team focused on building the best experience in the world for creative skills training, and thousands of students across the globe have already advanced their skills and changed careers with our help.

Our mission is to empower creators to do the work they love, and this extends to our culture and philosophy about work. Thanks to the quality of our product—rated best in class by reviewers at SwitchUp & Course Report—we’ve built a passionate community of students, mentors, alumni, and hiring managers.

As an Illustrator, the visuals you create will be used in our content and communications, such as on the blog, in emails, social media, and advertising. Our ideal candidate will have experience designing in Figma, or other design tools like Adobe Illustrator, and will have an exciting portfolio showcasing their visual design work.

How our team works

We are a fully remote team who largely works in an autonomous way; this allows room for creativity from you as the designer. In illustration briefs, we’ll give you either a summary of the content/communication or the actual copy, as well as any initial design thoughts we have, and you’d be able to take it from there. We want to see what you can do! After a first draft, you’ll work collaboratively with our communications team on any iterations required until everyone feels that the work represents our brand voice and the concept at hand.

On the note of brand voice, we work within a designated color palette and consistent set of style guidelines. We also already have a library of illustration assets/graphics that can be repurposed for designs you can create moving forward, so you won’t always have to start from scratch. That being said, we’re always open to new, creative design ideas to evolve our brand.

Responsibilities

This is a part time role requiring around 15 hours of work per week. Here’s what typical week of deliverables looks like:

  • 3 post header images
  • 2 email header images
  • Social media and advertising images as needed
  • Infographics, GIFs, or other interactive visual content as needed

Skills & Experience

  • You are a master at time management and never miss a deadline
  • You have excellent communication skills
  • You are able to create visually appealing illustrations according to a style guide
  • You have an excellent handle on typography, layout, and color
  • You are creative and skilled in a visual design software
  • You can take minimal guidance and run with it
  • You work quickly and efficiently to get the job done
  • (Bonus) You have experience creating GIFs and animations from scratch as well as animating existing assets

Perks:

  • Work from home (we’re a fully distributed team with members in NYC, Lisbon, and more)
  • Flexible hours (you set your own schedule)
  • Occasional in-person team retreats (public health guidelines permitting)
  • Work on an awesome product that’s innovating in the online education space and teaching people modern design skills all over the globe

Tier 1 Technical Support

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Washington D.C.
URL: https://www.uscreen.tv/

Tier 1 Technical Support

We’re looking for an amazing individual to join our technical support team. For this position, we want a true champion: a well-rounded person able to provide our clients with technical support, as well as answer any onboarding questions they might have. Your ultimate goal is to help our clients succeed by proactively providing them with all the technical know-how.

Uscreen is an amazingly diverse, fast-developing video monetization platform and the person joining us will play a pivotal role in our growth. This is a fast-developing industry, and we’ll need our tech support champ to know every detail about our platform to be able to confidently help customers with all technical and general support inquiries.

Our team is incredibly smart, passionate, supportive, skilled, open to learning, and constantly developing. We’re looking for someone who can match that energy.

About the role:

This is a customer-facing role: you will be one of the first points of contact for our clients in order to help them set up their account. From basic items, like video uploads and answering a variety of questions, to more advanced technical issues, like domain name setup / CNAME setup and installing SSLs, you will be providing rounded technical support for both new and existing Uscreen clients. It’ll be your responsibility and goal to provide our clients with solid answers and on-point guidelines that will help them have the smoothest experience possible.

We are looking for someone reliable and eager to work with us long-term. This is a full-time remote position and is not suited for a digital nomad lifestyle. We require a steady internet connection and a mandatory overlap of working hours with the rest of the team.

Job duties include working in the ticket queue to assist customers with technical support requests.  Being a go-to person for all technical requirements related to support and the platform.  Escalating more advanced tickets to Tier 2; escalating bug issues to the Product Team.  Helping customers with setup and onboarding as needed to help them with the initial few steps of the platform setup via ticket as needed.

Requirements:

Must have:

  • 1+ years in Technical Support experience
  • Experience in SaaS
  • Working knowledge of HTML & CSS
  • A fully functioning workstation and a quiet place to work (with their own laptop or PC)

Must be:

  • Able to comfortably work one of these three shifts:
  • 2am ET - 10am ET, Thursday - Monday
  • 6pm ET - 2am ET, Thursday - Monday
  • 6am ET - 2pm ET, Tuesday - Saturday
  • Quick to learn and understand our platform, as well as the video and OTT industry
  • Able to work independently
  • Native or near-native English speaker
  • Overall a nice person :)

Our ideal candidate will also have:

  • Experience working with Intercom or similar
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Benefits:

  • Full-time (40 hours per week) remote job with contract. We want to make it clear that this is NOT a freelance / part-time position you can do in tandem with other professional endeavors
  • Amazing, young, and motivated team
  • 20 paid days off per year (eligible after the first 6 months with the company)
  • Budget for personal development

How to apply:

  • Apply using the link below
  • We review the applications and email candidates who qualify for the second round
  • The qualified candidates will be asked to do a test task: usually a video of yourself answering a few questions
  • After we review the submissions, we will organize a Zoom interview with the successful candidates
Please note that due to the high volume of applications, we are only able to respond to successful candidates.

Java Engineer

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: remote
URL: https://helpscout.com/

As a member of our Communications team building APIs in Kotlin and Java, you’ll be creating the foundations upon which our Beacon and Messages products are built. These products empower over 11,000 companies around the world to deliver world class support to their customers.

The ideal engineer for this position enjoys building and collaborating on elegant solutions. You relish the opportunity to tackle both customer and product orientated problems.

Currently at Help Scout
  • We develop in Java, Kotlin, JavaScript and PHP
  • We leverage AWS, Redis, RabbitMQ, Aurora MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • We also use Slack, Jira, Github, Jenkins, Docker, Drone

About the role
  • You will be working as a member of a small cross-functional team, responsible for expanding our APIs to support our Beacon and Messages products. These APIs serve tens of millions of requests per day. You’ll be working alongside another JVM Engineer, as well as JavaScript and PHP Engineers, and a product manager and designer.
  • The engineering team is made up of 50 people spread across several small, cross-functional teams.  These teams contain all the back-end and front-end talent to deliver exciting new capabilities.
  • On a daily basis, you'll work on new functionality, and be involved in the decisions made regarding implementation, testing, and backlog prioritization. You will collaborate with the rest of the engineering team through code reviews and participate in making architectural decisions.
  • We work using an iterative software approach, communicate mostly via Slack and are committed to remote, agile development.
  • You’ll work autonomously for the most part and we trust you to get work done when/where you can be productive.
  • Your team performs engineering support when a question can’t be answered by our in-house support team and passes triage. We’ll get you up-to-speed with engineering support so you can help our customers and improve the product along the way.
  • Everything is secondary to the customer experience. We expect you to have a keen sense of how your code will impact the experience in terms of performance, security and usability.
  • You'll be working with product people that challenge you to get better every day. The founders are technical and committed to creating a magical experience for customers. You'll deploy work that moves the needle for businesses around the world.
  • In order to ensure enough team overlap, you're located anywhere between Mountain Time and Central European Time zones.

About you:
  • You became an engineer because you like writing software that helps people.
  • You bring a level of Java-specific expertise that will help us deliver an outstanding experience for customers and fellow developers.
  • You have experience collaborating with other engineers, product, and design folks to craft relevant, customer-focused solutions, that serve high volumes of traffic.
  • You are excited about the JVM ecosystem.
  • You are a skilled, passionate, and humble engineer who is friendly, collaborative, and supportive. You want to be challenged by the work and not the workload. You are willing to ask for help when necessary and unafraid to say,“I don’t know.” At the same time, you have the confidence to take on complex and challenging problems.
  • You value personal growth and constructive feedback. Believing that“a rising tide lifts all ships,” you make everyone around you better sharing what you have learned and looking for ways to improve both yourself and the team.
  • You demonstrate an empathetic, organized and collaborative communication style with fellow engineers and non-engineering stakeholders. Clear communication is super important in a remote culture like ours.
  • You will consider how your work impacts others, and demonstrate thoughtful, flexible approaches to mentoring and guiding technical decisions.
  • Your code is not only a pleasure for customers to use, but for other engineers to read and understand easily. When working in the codebase, you leave things better than you found them.
  • You believe remote teams are the future of work, or are at least excited about the idea.  You have experience working with remote teams or can adjust your work/management style to be remote-friendly.

About Us
Help Scout is made by roughly 110 people in 80+ cities around the world, all with a passion for helping others. We come from diverse backgrounds and are united by an enthusiasm for great products and delightful customer experiences. Help Scout launched in 2011 and today we have more than 10,000 paying customers in 140+ countries.

Why Help Scout?
We're remote. It doesn’t matter if you’ve worked remotely before — we’ve been doing it for nearly a decade and are helping to write the playbook — we’re happy to show you the ropes. Most folks that get a taste of working in a "remote first" company have a hard time going back to the old way of doing things.

We’re passionate about diversity and inclusion. The data is abundantly clear about diverse teams being more successful, and we're dedicated to setting the team up for success. Today our leadership team is 62% women, and that's just the start. Here's our DEI Dashboard where you can see all of our team demographic data and read about our commitment to this work.

We're committed to SMBs for the long term. Help Scout is focused entirely on serving small and midsize businesses, typically up to 500 employees, because those companies view customer service differently. It's not a cost to be optimized, it's their most effective marketing tool and a key differentiator from the competition. We built Help Scout for companies that truly value being customer-centric (like us) and want a product that shares their values.

We're leaving the world better than we found it. Did you know Help Scout is a certified B Corporation, with a mission to give away at least 1% of our product through Help Scout for Good? Our company exists not just to help ourselves, but to invest in our team, our customers, our community, and our environment.

Our commitment to you
We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to building a company that embraces and celebrates diversity and inclusion. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We have read the studies and understand that diverse teams build better products, bring more perspective to the table, contribute to a company’s financial success and help foster a more inclusive environment for all employees, but the bottom line is that it's the right thing to do.

Senior Engineering Manager

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Remote
URL: http://www.helpscout.com

“Your role as a manager is not to do the work yourself, even if you are the best at it, because that will only take you so far. Your role is to improve the purpose, people, and process of your team to get as high a multiplier effect on your collective outcome as you can.”

 - Julie Zhou, author of The Making of a Manager.

Few things are more professionally gratifying than empowering others to do the best work of their careers. As a Senior Engineering Manager at Help Scout (internally, your title is "coach"), your mission is to bring out people’s best.  Working closely with product managers and product designers, you will ensure that your team has the proper knowledge, staffing, and skills to be successful.

The Team
The Engineering group is one of the three-piece ensemble, along with Product and Design, that makes up our 56-person Experience Organization at Help Scout.  You will be coaching engineers across two different teams and will be part of our 7 person Engineering leadership group that includes our CTO, Denny Swindle. You will report to our VPE, Megan Chinburg

Engineers on your team(s) will be members of cross-functional groups that are working on mission-aligned projects and initiatives. You’ll partner with Product and Design to empower Engineers to improve their craft, understand and empathize with our customers, identify risks, and determine milestones. You’ll be a passionate catalyst for change that results from your team’s iteration and project retrospectives.

About the role
  • You’ll be working with product people that challenge you to grow every day, including leaders in Design and Product. The founders and leadership team are technical and committed to creating a magical experience for our customers.
  • You will deliver value to your team members by providing them with growth opportunities, balanced feedback, and support that promote their career goals.
  • Ultimately an engineer’s success within a team is a measure of your success as a coach. When they are doing their best work, and you provide thoughtful coaching and mentorship without being too hands-on, that’s how you know it’s working.
  • Our teams are organized and committed to Lean Flow, and part of your job is to support, coach and reinforce this, and highlight and correct for anti-patterns to our agreed upon practices.
  • You will partner with Product Managers to co-create the roadmap for your team(s), helping to plan the strategic technical initiatives that will be required to support future customer solutions.
  • You will be responsible for identifying and anticipating future staffing needs, and proactively engaging and partnering with our Talent team to support our hiring practices.
  • Everything is secondary to the customer experience. We expect every engineer to have a keen sense of how their code will impact that experience with respect to performance, availability, security, usability and accessibility.

Time Zone note

  • Given that we have remote team members living between EET through CST time zones, we prefer that your regular working hours be around 8AM - 5PM ET to ensure several solid blocks of overlap time with your team members.

About you

  • You’ve managed senior engineering teams before and are no stranger to what it takes to help your team achieve great things.
  • In the past you’ve been a successful engineer. However, your real passion has been leading, mentoring, and coaching people to accomplish great things. Your other passion is helping your team evolve to the next stage in their careers.
  • You default to non-defensive listening and believe in leading with with humility and vulnerability. You naturally build excellent relationships with your team and peers.
  • You are an outstanding communicator, both verbally and in writing. In a remote team, your writing skills are critical to your success in this role.
  • You lean in to having difficult conversations with people to resolve a situation and do what is right. You understand the value of direct, transparent, respectful feedback and know that it’s a gift your teammates can use to grow and develop their super powers.
  • You know how to absorb ambiguity and spread clarity; you can distill and connect the big picture goals to the day-to-day work of your team and can help them understand the larger impact of their work.
  • You are extremely thoughtful when it comes to hiring people for your team, and work actively to identify your team’s growth areas. You prioritize hiring someone that is a long-term compliment to the team versus someone who works and thinks like everyone else.
  • You believe diverse teams are critical for high performance and understand the value of fostering an inclusive environment for your team to thrive. You understand the important impact you can have as a coach on DEI efforts in hiring and promoting team members.
  • You believe remote teams are the future of work, and have experience working with remote teams or can adjust your work/management style to be remote-friendly.

QA Lead

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Aarhus, Denmark
URL: https://sleeknote.com

To start because we all hate finding the perfect position in the wrong timezone. While this position is remote, we’re looking for someone who will have significant overlap (at least 5 hours) with Central European Time during a typical workday. We’re not hiring from locations that require a graveyard shift to make the overlap happen.

At Sleeknote, we’re looking for someone that will run tests that protect users and the company. Since you will be our first full-time QA position, you should be comfortable wearing multiple hats, from helping Support with an issue to testing a new feature to making sure other departments are ready for a feature release.  You will also have a hand in defining how QA should work at Sleeknote.

Here are some things we’re looking for:

  • You understand that communication is the most significant responsibility of your job and the one you’re least likely to get right unless you focus on it.
  • When you take on a task, whether it’s huge and scary or tiny and boring, you’re going to see it through to the best of your ability.
  • You have a vision for how QA should work, and working with others, take small steps each day to get there.

What we expect from our QA Lead:

  • Work with the Product and Development teams in developing a QA testing strategy for features and regressions.
  • Determining and running the appropriate balance of manual and possibly automated tests, as well as the types of tests (UI, API, functional/performance/load, and so on)
  • Test and possibly review your teammates’ pull requests
  • Support customer success in diagnosing customer issues
  • Coordinate with other departments on feature releases

About you:

  • Significant experience in manual software testing. Automated testing experience is a big plus.
  • Advanced problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to manage tasks from assignment through to production
  • Have remote communication and collaboration down to an art (chat, video, email, etc.)
  • A solid team player. We discuss options but all commit to one solution.
  • Highly value working with people you like and respect, you’re agile, humble,  trustworthy, and you’re comfortable working asynchronously, too.
  • Accountable and hungry to play an impactful role and not afraid to fail.
Even if you don’t feel you are a perfect fit for everything described, please applyas we are excited to hear from people looking to grow.

Software Developer

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: London, UK
URL: https://www.overleaf.com

What We Do

Overleaf is a startup and social enterprise that builds modern collaborative authoring tools for scientists — like Google Docs for Science. We have over six million registered users from around the world. Our primary product is an online, real-time collaborative editor for papers, theses, technical reports and other documents written in the LaTeX markup language.

Who We Are

Overleaf was founded by two mathematicians who were inspired by their own experiences in academia to create a better solution for scientific collaboration and communication. Now we are a team of about forty with fifteen developers, based mainly in and around the UK and in the US. We were recently recognised as one of the UK's top 100 fastest growing businesses and as the Best SaaS for Nonprofits or Education in the 2020 SaaS Awards Program.

Our Tech

Overleaf is based on open source software, and most of our product code is itself open source. You can find it on GitHub: https://github.com/overleaf/overleaf (note: most activity is in the repos linked from there).

We run a mainly Node.js back end using MongoDB, PostgreSQL and Redis. We use a microservices architecture, with about a dozen services. On the front end, we mainly use Angular v1 and are incrementally migrating to React.

We're hosted on Google Cloud Platform using Google Kubernetes Engine. We use Docker to manage our development environments. We support continuous delivery and typically deploy at least a few times a day (less on Fridays).

How We Work

Overleaf is remote-first — all founders and staff work remotely. We also have an office in Farringdon for those in the London area, and when the pandemic settles down we'll again get the whole team together in London a few times a year for face-to-face time.

We encourage flexible working. Our core hours are 2pm–5pm UK time, during which our development teams have 10–15 minute daily standup calls. We have few standing meetings for developers, but we do many smaller video or voice calls for pairing or within teams.

We always collect user feedback to inform our work. We have UX professionals on our team, and we run many surveys and user interviews.

We organize our work with Kanban. We use GitHub pull requests for each feature with code review to share knowledge and best practices (and catch bugs). We test thoroughly with automated unit and acceptance tests, supported by continuous integration (CI). We're also fans of linting to minimise bike-shedding (and to catch bugs).

About This Role

We plan to add two developers to our team, both with a backend focus. Experience with some of Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis or Kubernetes is desirable. We are also particularly interested in meeting you if:
  • you'd be interested in taking up a team lead role in the not too distant future, or
  • you have experience with setting up data pipelines for web analytics and/or business intelligence.
Key projects on our road map this year include:
  • Improve our B2C conversion metrics and monitoring — we'll be setting up a new web analytics system to generate insights we need while continuing to respect user privacy
  • Consolidate our two project history systems — we currently have two from our integration with ShareLaTeX in 2017, each with hundreds of TB to be consolidated
  • Make our project PDF preview faster and less bandwidth-hungry — we have prototypes showing big wins that now need productionizing
Here are some examples of projects (large and small) we've recently completed:
In the longer term, we are planning projects around improved collaboration features for teams, improvements to our rich text mode, and more.

How We Hire

The stages in our hiring process are typically:
  1. We will aim to update you on the status of your application within 14 days from when we receive it.
  2. We'll follow up by email (or sometimes schedule a phone call) with any questions we have about your application, usually around logistics, your ambitions and your expectations about the role.
  3. We'll schedule a more in-depth interview, which is typically two hours long. The first hour is discussion, and the second hour is technical. For the technical, you'll have the option of either completing a homework assignment, which requires about one hour of your time before the interview, or solving a problem in the interview, if you prefer. The problems are practical in nature (no fizz-buzz or reversing linked lists), and you can use Google, man pages, etc., and ask us questions.
  4. We'll make an offer. We usually interview in batches, so there may be a short delay while we interview other candidates, but we will try to keep you informed throughout the process.
If you have a deadline, please let us know in your application, and we will try to be accommodating.

Requirements

We require that you:
  • have a minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience (we aren't taking on more new graduates at the moment).
  • will work for us full time (or nearly full time).
  • will usually be available in our core hours, 2pm–5pm UK time. Applicants in US, UK, Canada or Europe are preferred.
Experience with the technologies we use is always a plus, but you don't need to know them all; your ability to learn is much more important to us.

Benefits
  • Remote and flexible working.
  • Salary £40k–£75k per year depending on experience.
  • You would join a small, dedicated and growing team.
  • We're substantially (around 80%) open source, so your work will often be on open source code.
  • We're backed by Bethnal Green Ventures (https://bethnalgreenventures.com/) and Digital Science (https://www.digital-science.com/), through which we're part of a wider community of startups in science, health and ed-tech.
  • Our London office is shared with several other Digital Science companies, so there's lots of interesting people to meet, and clubs and sports activities outside of work.
  • We get everyone together in London for team meetings several times a year for valuable face-to-face time (pandemic permitting).
  • You can pick your own equipment. MacBook Pro? Lenovo ThinkPad? Notebook and pen? However you like to work, we'll provide what you need.
  • We provide a training budget; many of our developers choose to attend relevant industry conferences or buy training materials.
  • We run quarterly remote hackathons to keep learning and experimenting.
  • We run a weekly internal seminar series with short talks from staff about their work or personal projects, new technologies and techniques.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

ColorElephant is venturing out in building its own SaaS offering. We're now looking for a hustler, entrepreneurial-minded Head of Marketing for the SaaS division (ColorElephant Studio). Someone that is a self-starter and can take general guidance and move forward with marketing initiatives (see examples below). Experience in technology and SaaS is critical. Understanding the 'entrepreneurial' ecosystem (me typing "PH" doesn't leave you 😕) is a big plus. We're hoping to have someone that "been there, done that" and therefore wouldn't require a ton of direction but more a north star to chase :) The current opportunity is interesting because our approach with the Studio is a "big portfolio of small bets" so you'll get to market a bunch of different micro-SaaS in a variety of markets. We're looking for the kind of person that can do more with less, knowing miracles are hard to come by.

We're setting ourselves to show that a portfolio of focused but varied SaaS solutions can be grown profitably.

Marketing Activities

  1. Maintain social media in a way that is aligned with our goals and promotes our products.
  2. Help us produce content (i.e. find people who will produce the content, coordinate execution) for blog and social media.
  3. Lead development of landing pages (project management, guidance, testing, launch)
  4. Work to promote all of our SaaS products in appropriate generic channels (PH, IndieHackers, HackerNews, AppSumo etc) with result-driven plans;
  5. Explore marketing / conversion / referral ideas that increase signups and conversions.
  6. Understand how we can leverage what we have to increase reach;
  7. Run ad campaigns (Reddit / Google / Facebook / LinkedIn / Paid Newsletter) for our targets
  8. See specific initiatives through completion and help launch them, this includes newsletter advertisment initiatives planned.
  9. Help promote us in the right channels (your recommendations are welcomed): LinkedIn, Review Sites, etc.
  10. come up with ideas for and execute videos, social media posts and other 'engagement' content
  11. Hustle. Cold email. Get us coverage. Push the boundaries.
  12. Bring energy and enthusiasm to help us share the message with the world.

Expectations

We're expecting someone that starts as either part-time (20h min) or full time. We don't have a preference at this point as long as the part-time can eventually (if we're a fit) grow into full-time.

We have a "do more with less" mentality, and are looking for someone that shares that feeling. This is not the big marketing-team-marketing-dollars environment. It is the environment, however, where you'll have nearly unlimited ownership to shape our business over the next few years. You'll have founders and a leadership team that have some connections, have built things over the years and will be as aligned in experimenting as you'd be.

Requirements

Here are a couple things we're absolutely looking for:

  1. 1-3 years of experience with marketing of SaaS.
  2. Fluent in english;
  3. Demonstrated ability to lead and problem solve;
  4. Hustle / Get it Done Mentality:

Short right? Now comes the hard part. Here is what would make a unique candidate an actual great better fit:

  1. Experience with SaaS organic growth;
  2. Experience in growing organic channels;
  3. Demonstrated ability to take teams from idea to execution;
  4. Experience with Social Media;
  5. Experience with Online Advertisement;
  6. Experience with Growth Hacking (big plus) — yes we know this a "big word" that means a lot of different things;
  7. Understanding of the tech / entrepreneurial environment.

Our Offer

  • The challenge of a lifetime (as described above) with the opportunity to shape the future of a growing organisation;
  • Insane levels of ownership, independence and responsibility;
  • Work from anywhere with our remote policy. We know sometimes the best work is done in the beach (or mountain, or... ) :-)
  • Competitive Salary for position and location;
  • Bonuses for performance indicators we'd mutually agree;
  • Health Plan and/or Deductions
  • Flexible vacation/days off policy
  • Training / Self-Development Yearly Package
  • Yearly Bonuses Program
  • Paid parental leave / Flexible conditions on return
  • Continuous Training (both on site and online)
  • Attend Annual Company retreat abroad
  • Ability to work in complex projects of Fortune500 as well as small companies.
  • Plenty of Growth Opportunities
  • The opportunity to join an unique and growing company with a 200% growth record for the past 3 years;
  • Contribute with your suggestions and see your feedback and opinion impact products used by millions worldwide
  • A growing team full of talent

We are looking for a solution architect as a Technical Co-founder who wants to go on an adventure…

Someone who wants to be part of leading a product development team from day one. This is an opportunity to have a voice and make big decisions about how a new online service will be created. We are a funded “startup” that is spinning out of an existing, profitable company that already has thousands of customers. We are looking for a team leader who, in addition to being a great solution architect and developer, is also an open communicator who has an entrepreneurial bend and work ethic. You will have led multiple cross-platform, hybrid app development projects before and enjoy mentoring junior team members. You may be based anywhere.

Ambassador Program Manager Job

Ingles 12 days

Headquarters: Dover, DE
URL: https://www.theotakubox.com/

We are looking for an ambassador program manager for The Otaku Box! You’ll be managing hundreds of current ambassadors, and will be required to grow the program from hundreds to thousands of ambassadors over the next 12 months. You’ll be recruiting new ambassadors, incentivizing engagement with new ideas and programs, ensuring compliance, measuring, reporting, testing, and improving on a continual basis!

First, here’s what we’re NOT looking for:

We're not looking for someone who needs to be told what to do or what to create. We're not looking for someone who needs to be managed. We're looking for someone who can set, measure, and meet KPIs, with a very high attention to detail. You should be able to conceptualize, create, measure, report, and optimize without being told what, when, or how - we will not hold your hand or micromanage you. You'll be required to perform (and prove it), and you'll be well compensated for great performance. Making stuff happen and increasing ambassador quantity, activity, engagement, and sales will be 100% your responsibility. If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, stop reading now.

Here’s what we ARE looking for:

Someone who has at least 2 years working remotely, and at least 2 years of experience managing a brand ambassador program with 100+ ambassadors using an ambassador management platform who finds this job description appealing and doesn’t need to be handheld.

Here are some of the things you'll be doing:

  • Growing the ambassador program from hundreds to thousands of ambassadors
  • Thinking of new ways to increase ambassador engagement, loyalty, and marketing efficacy
  • Thinking of new ways to incentivize ambassadors
  • Thinking of new ways to increase sales from ambassadors
  • Testing new ways to be more effective at the above
  • Creating detailed reports on everything
  • Answering to the head of marketing
You need to have two years of verifiable experience with the following:

  • Working remotely
  • Managing an ambassador program of at least 100 ambassadors
  • Using a professional ambassador program management SaaS (example: Grin Influencer Management Platform)
What would earn you bonus points during the hiring process:

  • Experience in the Gaming or Anime niche
  • Solid experience with Asana
  • Relative fluency in the French language
What we don't do:

  • We don't micromanage
  • We don't waste your or our time with “company culture”
  • We don't use slack, much less waste time in it. How awesome is that?! (We use Discord)
  • We don't make you physically show up anywhere or to anything, ever. 👊
That means that you:

  • Must be incredibly self-motivated and really eager to create (and prove) your ROI
  • Have to be stoked about working in a position that requires you to perform and rewards you for it
  • Shouldn't care about fluff (think: anything done by a Silicon Valley startup...) and should care about ROI
Perks:

  • Hardware & software if/as needed
  • Free anime stuff if you want it
  • 100% remote. 👊
  • No BS, just performance. Good performance? Earn more cash. We’re big on providing frequent and permanent raises for killer performance.
  • Everything listed in “What we don't do” (see above) Send an email to
ambassadors@theotakubox.com to apply. Don’t send a LinkedIn URL, we don’t use that crap. The email should be straight to the point: how awesome you’ve been at managing ambassador programs in the past, and a brief overview of why and how you’ll do the same for The Otaku Box.

Hi, nice to meet you 👋🏽. My name is Pulkit, one of the co-founders of Chameleon. We started Chameleon to make user onboarding more delightful. It’s working, and as our product team grows, we need someone with great design skills to help shape the next generation of our product.

Do you want to influence the experience of millions of end users worldwide? Do you want to work on hard problems with smart people that trust you and value what you bring to the table?

Chameleon is a platform for product success; our customers build in-product experiences (like banners, modals, tooltips, walkthroughs, spotlights, widgets, microsurveys etc.) inside their web apps without writing any code, using Chameleon.

You will become an expert on how to help others create effective UX; shape our roadmap in this hot new space; influence the design culture of a young team; and build the design systems that will be used for the next phase of our growth.

    • Conduct research and ideate solutions to these problems

    • Help define user stories

    • Create wireframes and hi-fidelity prototypes to showcase solutions

    • Refine designs and prepare them for engineering

    • Help test and review delivered stories

  • Conduct specific user research projects, including beta programmes

  • Influence/direct marketing design (e.g. website)

  • Help improve and refine Chameleon’s brand personality

Your skills (what we expect)
  • 3+ years as a full-time product design experience, ideally at a SaaS company

Hi, nice to meet you 👋🏽. My name is Pulkit, one of the co-founders of Chameleon. We started Chameleon to make user onboarding more delightful. It’s working, and as our marketing team grows, we need someone with great writing skills to help shape the next generation of our content.

Are you interested in building content for the product community on topics such as great UX, user onboarding and engagement, product marketing, and product-led growth? Do you want to become an expert on these topics and make Chameleon content a compelling resource for practitioners around the world? Do you want to challenge yourself to craft a differentiated content strategy in a competitive field?

Chameleon is a platform for product success; our customers build in-product experiences (like banners, modals, tooltips, walkthroughs, spotlights, widgets, microsurveys etc.) inside their web apps without writing any code, using Chameleon.

This helps users adopt and use more of the software that’s built, and helps provide product teams a simple way to engage their users. We’re essentially increasing the efficiency of products!
