📚 Continuous Learning
🗺 Anywhere in the U.S.A.

Why CartHook?

CartHook helps leading Shopify stores delight their customers with offers after they check out. After five-plus years of running a checkout optimization platform for Shopify merchants, we launched the Post Purchase Offers app in the Shopify app store in November 2020.

We’re up and running and primed for growth. You can be a part of that growth by establishing the practices and processes for a key part of our marketing efforts.

Who We Are

We’re a group of people who give a damn. We believe in doing what’s right and speaking up, even when it’s difficult. We pursue success, humbly.

We are a fully remote team on two continents, and we bridge time zones and distance with thorough and transparent communication, and processes designed to support and include each other. You’ll get to work with awesome people in almost every part of the company. We value input and ideas from everyone, no matter what their role or how long they’ve been with us.

We believe that diversity makes us stronger. We provide a safe, welcoming space for those who are marginalized. CartHook is an equal opportunity employer. At CartHook, you can be the person you are, regardless of ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, age, size, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

How We Work

Live where you want
We’re a fully remote team with offices in Portland, Oregon, USA, and Ljubljana, Slovenia. For this role, you can live and work anywhere in, or between, the Pacific Time Zone (UTC-8) and Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5).

Work-life balance
We trust each other to manage our time appropriately and get our work done. There’s no need to punch a clock. We expect you to be available and able to collaborate with your team, and we want you to create a schedule that works for your life. Our remote work philosophy relies on good communication and openness.

Responsible time off
We want you to take time off; it makes you happier, healthier, and more productive. It’s important you take the time you need, whether you’re caring for your health, the health of a family member, or going on vacation. We have an unlimited time-off policy, plus two mandatory weeks for a holiday break in late December/early January. We all work hard leading up to (and during) Black Friday Cyber Monday. That’s our merchants’ busiest time of the year, and we need all hands on deck.

Grow and learn
We value curiosity and the drive to and grow and learn. That’s why we fund conferences (when those are a thing again), online courses and resources, and dedicated time away to learn something new.

Benefits

  • Insurance coverage: We offer health, dental, and vision insurance. We cover 100% of your medical and dental premiums and 75% for vision. We also cover a percentage of the premiums for dependents. If our default plan isn’t right for you, there are other options available to fit your needs.
  • Parental leave: All parents who welcome a new child by birth, surrogacy, foster, or adoption are eligible to take 8 weeks of paid leave. All birth mothers are eligible for an additional eight weeks of paid leave. New mothers will be able to have a flexible, soft re-entry coming back to work.
  • 401k Plan: Employees are eligible for a 401k plan provided by Guideline and integrated into our payroll system. Plans are funded by the employee.
The Role

As the Partner Marketing Manager for CartHook’s Post Purchase Offers app, you’ll play a key role in implementing the company’s marketing strategies to attract new customers and increase CartHook’s brand awareness, particularly in the Shopify app ecosystem.

You’ll build a successful partner marketing practice in the Shopify partner ecosystem by developing and nurturing relationships with other Shopify apps and agencies to create qualified marketing leads and increase CartHook’s brand awareness. As you develop relationships with app partners and agencies, you’ll work closely with them to plan, organize, and execute integrated, multi-channel campaigns with partners that include emails, blog posts, webinars, social media, case studies, testimonials, and other co-marketing opportunities.

At the same time, you’ll be a key team member of CartHook’s marketing team. That means your ideas and interactions with partner apps will inform how we define and execute a range of marketing campaigns and initiatives to achieve our goals and KPIs. You’ll also collaborate with the Support, Success, and Product teams to understand and speak to our ideal customer.

How you’ll do it:

  • Work with partners and other third-party stakeholders to help plan, organize, and execute integrated, multi-channel campaigns with partners that include emails, blog posts, webinars, social media, case studies, testimonials, and other co-marketing opportunities
  • Identify target app partners and agencies for partnerships and lead the development of processes to support and guide them into our ecosystem
  • Deliver content in accordance with CartHook’s content calendar, product releases, ecommerce seasonality, and partner needs
  • Create training, tools, content, and other resources to enable our partners to effectively promote and market CartHook
  • Support the Success team’s agency program through outreach and content creation
  • Help edit and inform a range of marketing content, from blog posts and social media posts to nurture campaigns and landing pages
  • Collaborate with the Success, Support, and Product teams to understand our evolving ideal customer and apply findings to content and partner communications
  • Track the effectiveness of partner initiatives and optimize to help generate new leads and customers

What makes you a great Partner Marketing Manager:

  • Have experience working in SaaS marketing in partner and customer-facing roles
  • Ability to consistently express CartHook’s brand voice in every piece of content you create and in every external interaction
  • Enjoy creating long-term relationships with external people and organizations. You understand that great communication matters from the beginning
  • Have experience in ecommerce, Shopify in particular
  • Are a self-starter who can collaborate deeply and communicate proactively with your teammates
  • Ace writing and editing skills. You understand how to adjust tone depending on the circumstance and express big ideas succinctly across various channels
  • Have experience distilling complex technical topics into easy to understand language
  • Understand the importance of tracking the results of your work to see how it fits into larger initiatives
  • Experience in setting up and executing marketing initiatives in Intercom and Hubspot
  • Embrace change and have a willingness to adapt to whatever comes your way
  • Are excited about doing great work and making a difference at a small company
If you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications, you should still seriously consider applying. Studies show that you can still be considered for a role if you meet just 50% of the role’s requirements. We encourage people of color, women, veterans, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ to apply.

Sr Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Ingles 10 days

Headquarters: Chicago, IL
URL: https://www.printavo.com

Everyone has their favorite college or band t-shirt, a company shirt, or a brand you like sporting. These apparel-based items are made at screen printing shops around the world and we help them stay organized and grow. It can be very difficult to manage a high-volume of those orders and that's where Printavo comes in.

On top of that, most current solutions are ancient, paper-based, and need more automation. Let's build the future of our industry together!

As a Sr Software Engineer, you will be hands-on shaping our platform in all ways from performance to integrations and every layer in between. As a platform that has been serving a quickly growing user base for 5+ years, we have had to keep up by relentlessly refactoring in order to continue to deliver value for our customers.

Who We Are:
Printavo is one of the leading software solutions for the custom apparel industry. If you’ve ever ordered custom t-shirts it’s likely that our software was running the show at that shop. With the work of our amazing team, we power printing companies around the world helping them to stay organized and grow.

For You:
  • Direct ownership of your work
  • See the effects immediately with our customers
  • Become an early member of a fast-growing team
  • Major growth and development opportunities
Role and Responsibilities:
  • Report directly to the CTO as well as work with the founder
  • Assist customer success in diagnosing and addressing customer concerns
  • Assist in monitoring for performance hotspots and participate in architectural changes to scale the platform
  • Build features covering areas from integrations with other platforms, to further building out our own API
Your Skills:
  • Communication: You know how to talk to computers and humans since they’ll both be on your team
  • Organization: Source control and writing tests is a reflex
  • Curiosity: You ask questions. Understanding comes from asking, you don’t just nod and walk away asking “what was that all about?”
  • Resilience: You don't fold under pressure. Rather, you thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Pragmatism: Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was Printavo. It was a series of choices made over a long period of time that got us to where we are, always with the guiding principle being to do right by our shareholders...our customers
  • Empathy: You love helping people, you care about your team and you're driven to enhance your personal growth. You love coming in on the ground floor and building something to reach heights it hadn’t without you. You also understand your customers and how your work helps them do their work
  • Ownership: If you see a piece of litter you pick it up. Building applications from scratch are easy. Maintaining platforms over time is hard. You are always looking for extra credit ways to make the code you work on and own better than how you found it
Pre-requisites:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher, or can prove very strong competence in many or all of the below layers of our tech stack:
  • Git
  • Ruby
  • Rails
  • Javascript
  • Postgres
  • ElasticSearch

We're looking for sharp, self-motivated, kind, problem-solving Product Designers to join our team. You'll use your experience and expertise in shipping well-designed and successful SaaS apps (not just websites) to help CompanyCam succeed.

We're not looking for one-trick ponies either. We need holistic Product Designers: you'll do user research, UX design, UI design, interaction design, microcopy, and HTML+CSS writing while keeping both user and business goals in mind. We know it's a broad role so don't worry if you're not an expert in all those things (we like T-shaped designers). You'll also be working alongside a talented team of Product Designers who deeply care to help each other grow as holistic Product Designers.

To give you and idea of what you'd be doing day-to-day, here are some things we have worked on recently:

  • Built an experience for multiple companies to collaborate on projects in CompanyCam.
  • Worked in collaboration with marketing designers to rethink brand colors that can be useful to both marketing and product design teams.
  • Published design tokens for use in our mobile and web apps (size, color, spacing, etc.).
  • Created the ability for users to create custom photo reports in the mobile app (previously was only available in our web app).
  • Researched and implemented the ability for users to use CompanyCam projects and photos on their own company website to promote their work.
  • Started a design system to provide Product Designers/Engineers with tools to build faster and share a common design language.

Why CompanyCam?

Did you wake up this morning with a burning desire to create apps for contractors? No? I didn’t think so. I admit, it’s not something one thinks about without some prompting. But bear with me for a moment...

Contractors are everywhere. They build our homes, they literally put roofs over our heads, they wire up our electricity, give us access to the internet, fix our plumbing and AC, paint our homes…the list goes on.

At CompanyCam, you’ll work with intelligent, kind people to make contractors' work easier. You'll create time for them so they can get shit done and spend more time with their families. Sound corny? You’ll find that midwesterner ethos permeate our culture (we’re based in Lincoln, NE), so if you can’t hang with that, no hard feelings, but this probably isn’t the role for you.

Working at CompanyCam

Our Product and Engineering departments do things a little differently.

We use Basecamp’s Shape Up method (fused with empowered product teams a la Marty Cagan's Inspired) to organize and execute our work. That means you’ll work in a close-knit team consisting of a Product Manager, a Product Designer, and other Engineers on an area of the product in 6-week cycles. During cycles you'll spend about 60% of your time discovering (alongside your team) what CompanyCam should build and 40% of your time bringing those things to life. After each cycle you’ll get a 1-2 week cool-down where you’ll pursue educational opportunities, work on pet projects, or tweak some user experiences that have been nagging at you.

Sounds nice, right? No sprinting, no scrumming, no death by 1,000 meetings. We protect our designers' time, treat them like adults, and trust them to get their work done. We’re also big on not overworking people. Put in your eight hours of focused, quality work and then TURN. SLACK. OFF. No nights and weekends.

Our larger company culture is also refreshingly chill. We have fun, learn from each other, and don’t take ourselves too seriously.

We cover the important stuff too. We pay well, offer unlimited vacation, meaningful equity, health insurance, and other benefits. If you're local or down to move, we’re custom remodeling a new office space in the Lincoln Haymarket area that you’ll love. If you're remote (most of the engineering team is), we’re well set up with great conference room video equipment so you'll feel like you’re there with us, and once life is back to normal we’ll fly you in a few times a year to hang out.

What We Ask of You

You must…

  • Show up: give us your best and have the courage to do difficult but necessary stuff.
  • Grow up: take responsibility, learn continuously, and have a growth mindset.
  • Do good: treat your co-workers and customers the way you want to be treated.
  • Have experience and expertise in user research, UX design, UI design, interaction design, microcopy, and HTML+CSS with a strong portfolio of real, shipped apps.
  • Code. Currently, our designers write most of our CSS/Sass, while working directly in React and/or React Native. This goes beyond "working knowledge". You need to be comfortable writing production CSS.
  • Be a great communicator: you "work in the open", don't take critique personally, and can solicit, manage, and appropriately respond to feedback from stakeholders, users, and fellow designers.
  • Reside permanently and currently somewhere in the continental USA. Alas, we're not set up to hire designers outside of the US.
It'd be nice if you…

  • Have experience working with styled-components.
  • Live in Lincoln, NE or are interested in relocating (we'd provide assistance).
  • Have experience working in a Product-led Growth environment (or B2C environment) and can leverage that experience here.

How to Apply

Hit the apply button to tell us about yourself and about what you can bring to CompanyCam. We also want to see a portfolio that shows your best work and the process of how you got there. We'd prefer to see real, shipped apps over hypothetical projects to judge your ability, but if you can wow us with something else – that's fine. Just make sure you highlight your thought process and decision making.

We're accepting applications until Friday, January 29th, 2020 at 10PM US-Central time. There is no benefit to applying early, so take your time.

What happens next?

We will review all the applications and you should hear from us by February 5th about advancing to the interview stage – which will be all remote and include a small design challenge.

We're hoping to make an offer in February with a start date in March.

Think you're a good fit? 👇

Headquarters: Birmingham, AL

Description

We're looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team and help us build amazing features for our customers. The ideal candidate is someone who takes high ownership, can work independently with minimal guidance, is highly driven and motivated to deliver value.

What you'll be doing

You’ll collaborate with other Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and the Customer Success team to implement features and help solve escalated support cases. About 80% of your time will be spent working on new features and 20% will be spent investigating and fixing bugs.

Our stack includes Ruby on Rails, React, Tailwind, Postgres and Heroku. We’re currently on Rails 6 and strive to keep our frameworks and libraries up to date.

Be sure to mention coffee in your cover letter so we know you actually read this.

What's in it for you
  • Be a part of an incredible team of “A” players who go above and beyond to make Fleetio a successful company. We’re a customer-centric team with a great product, excellent support, and countless happy customers.
  • Work remotely (within the United States), or at our Birmingham, AL HQ. Over 80% of our Engineering Team works remotely (including our CTO), and as a company, we strive to promote a strong remote working culture and have done so since the beginning (2012).
  • Build software used by people all around the world. So many different types of companies and organizations operate a fleet each day, and Fleetio is a good fit for most of them (it’s a huge market).

Our team

We're hardcore believers in easy-to-use software. Crafting a delightful user experience is hard work, but we welcome the challenge and are looking for team members who share our ambition.

We’re a well-funded startup that’s in “scale up” mode, meaning we’re past the days of just a couple of people in a small office, but we’re still very much a fast-paced, highly collaborative company. We recently raised a $21M Series B round and are on an exciting trajectory as a company. You can learn more about it here.

Our main goal as Product Engineers is to quickly and continuously deliver meaningful value to our customers. We have aligned our teams, tools, and processes to achieve this. Our Engineering and Product teams are structured as autonomous squads that execute within one focal area toward a defined product vision. We've also optimized our CI/CD tools and processes to make it painless to run our test suite and get code into our production environments easily, resulting in an average of 40 deploys per week.

We organize our development work into a weekly cadence that takes inspiration from Kanban and Agile methodologies. While we keep meetings to a minimum, we’re committed to fostering a tight-knit team through various collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, GitHub, and Notion. We place great emphasis on work/life balance. We have families and know you do, too.

Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails
  • 1-2 years of production React experience
  • Experience with relational databases such as Postgres
  • Experience with front-end web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6)

Software Developer

Ingles 11 days

Headquarters: Los Angeles, CA
URL: https://www.technovation.org/

Full-Time; Remote (within the United States) or from offices in LA (post-pandemic)
Starting salary range for this position is $95,000 – 105,000

About Technovation

Technovation (technovation.org) is a global tech education nonprofit that empowers girls and families to become leaders, creators and problem-solvers. Over the past 14 years, Technovation has engaged more than 100,000 underserved children and parents across 115+ countries through two flagship programs:

Technovation Girls equips young women (ages 10-18) to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders. With the support of volunteer mentors, girls work in teams to code mobile apps that address real-world problems. You may have seen Technovation featured in the award-winning documentary, CodeGirl

Technovation Families brings together families, schools, and mentors to learn, play, and create with artificial intelligence. Through hands-on projects, children (ages 8-16) and adults learn and use AI tools to address real-world problems in their communities.

Our vision is to inspire girls and families to be leaders and problem solvers in their lives and their communities.

About this opportunity

As a Software Developer, you will play a key role on a small development team responsible for building and maintaining Technovation’s online learning platforms. You will help with all aspects of our platforms from ideation and technical design, to deployments and support.

This is a chance to be a part of a leading education technology nonprofit, in service to tens of thousands of girls and families in more than 100 countries.

One of the main goals of our work is to bring educational opportunities to underrepresented people and bring them into the technology workforce. We believe that, with the right learning opportunities and support, everyone has the ability to learn and to become technology creators.

About you:

You definitely don’t need to check every box but we’ll be looking for people with a bunch of these qualities.
  • You are a socially conscious and compassionate person, and consider your job as a means to have a positive impact on the world.
  • You like wearing multiple hats – working on a variety of problems with various technologies.
  • You are a positive thinker and are able to work collaboratively and constructively as part of a small dev team.
  • You are a self starter, have experience working on a remote team and managing your time.
  • You are constantly trying to improve – yourself, the team, the process, the codebase, and the product.
  • You have a great sense of humour and love to have fun while you work!
  • You care about code quality, readability and maintainability.
  • You don’t mind that the code built isn’t perfect, and like the challenge of improving it to meet our medium and long-term goals.
  • You’ve been practicing your craft professionally for a while now. (We don’t require any particular university education or degree).
Technical skills you’ll need to have:
  • Experience with an object-oriented programming language and an MVC framework (we use both Ruby on Rails and Python/Django)
  • Experience with testing methodologies (we use RSpec, pytest, and Jest)
  • Experience with a modern frontend framework (we use Vue.js)
  • Experience with CI/CD toolchains (we use GitHub, CircleCI and Heroku)
We also use a variety of other technologies that you will need to help support, including Cloudflare, New Relic, WordPress, Google Analytics, Google Apps, Google Location APIs, Surveymonkey, Mailchimp and Mandrill.

Bonus points for…
  • Constructive communication and collaboration with both technical and non-technical teams
  • Empathy for the end-user, for people of different cultures, languages, and education levels from your own
  • Experience with agile and user-centered development practices (but you’re not dogmatic about it)
  • Demonstrated commitment to STEM education, closing the gender gap in tech, or other issues related to Technovation’s mission
  • Liking The IT Crowd, Sandi Metz, or whatever your fav is that you can share with us

We offer:

Autonomy. In collaboration and negotiation with staff, you will make high level decisions about the work you will do, and how you will execute it. We don’t micromanage here. Just communicate clearly and discuss decisions with any people affected by it.

Flexible schedule. Go to appointments and run errands when you need to, as long as you’re getting your work done in good quality and on time. We have core hours, but no one is looking over your shoulder.

Ample paid time off. We offer 20 paid vacation days on top of regular holidays. (We also pay 100% of your healthcare coverage.)

Meaningful work. You’ll contribute directly to a project that provides technology education to students from underserved areas in 100 countries, all while helping to address the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields. Real people will express their gratitude to you in emails and slack chats.

Workplace input. If you can convince your coworkers, we are open to adopting new workflows, software, etc, that you think would improve our organization. The only formal approval commonly needed is for budget.

“Flat” organization. We do have a Leadership Team so that we know who to go to for help with issues and major decisions, and so that we have a clearly defined level of accountability, but you definitely won’t feel like you have a traditional boss or manager. All the way “up” to the CEO, we are transparent and honest. This isn’t fluff for a job posting, it’s something we actively practice and keep in check.

The best salary we can at the moment. Sure, you can make more at a top software company but at Technovation you’ll have purpose-driven work, personal freedom, meaningful collaboration, and real decision making power within the organization. As an education nonprofit, we don’t answer to shareholders, investors, and quarterly reports. Instead, we get to make what’s best for us and our users, on our own schedule. We will do everything we can to enable you to do the best work of your career and take pride in it.

How to apply:

Send the following to recruiting@technovation.org using the subject line “Developer”
  • Resume (pdf format)
  • In your email or as an attached pdf, briefly describe your experience building web apps and why you want to join Technovation
Optionally, you may also include:
  • a link to your GitHub profile, personal portfolio or website
  • an example of a website, an app, or anything built with code that you love, and a sentence or two about what specifically you admire about it (doesn’t have to have been made by you)

Sales Development Rep

Ingles 12 days

Headquarters: Jacksonville, FL
URL: https://breezy.hr/

Let's not mince words: As Breezy HR's in-house SDR, you'll have the power make a visible, measurable, and positive impact on our bottom line … fast.

You'll reach out and energize our potential customers with your optimism, affable good humor, and easygoing sales approach. You'll see that with over 10,000 users, Breezy is a fantastic fit for the modern recruiting space, but we need your experienced help to bring us to 10,000 more users (and 10,000 more after that).

Our sales process may be a little different than you're used to; you're not going to get a script, and we get that not every company you talk to should be a Breezy customer. We want you to bring your personality, ambition, and sound judgement into every call – and we'll surround you with product experts and creative assets to support you each step of the way.

What Am I Going to Do All Day?

  • You understand that in order to sell an awesome product, you need to know what's awesome about it, top to bottom. You're not afraid of tech, and you'll be a Breezy product master in a matter of days – armed with insights on potential use cases for the potential customers you'll be speaking with.
  • You live in (and love) a well-oiled CRM, so you'll run point on its care and feeding. Leveraging technology to build qualified industry or location lists with accurate contact information sounds like a good way to spend a workday to you!
  • You are phenomenal on the phone – you might even call it your happy place – so we'll ask you to reach out on 60+ cold calls a day.
  • Luckily for us, you have the wit and patience to take those 60+ calls in smooth stride, then turn them into a clean, sparkling lead development pipeline (we'll add some templated email nurture in there, too).
  • You know the old ABC (Always Be Closing)? We'd actually rather you ABQ – Always Be Qualifying. Not every lead would make a great customer, and we expect you to use specific criteria to quietly but quickly figure out whether or not your prospect would succeed with Breezy, not whether or not you can sell us to them.
  • You'll be tracking your opportunity generation metrics and hitting (um, blowing past?) quotas we set for our sales team – but that's nothing new for you, right?

About You

  • This isn't your first rodeo – you should have some experience selling to the SME/SaaS market as a primary job function.
  • You're enthusiastic about and comfy with technology, the SaaS space, and/or recruiting and human resources. You have ❤ for emojis and .gifs, and their phone-voice equivalents.
  • You're even-tempered (dare we say … breezy?), but not passive. We want you to see opportunities and tackle them head-on, but we need you to stay flexible, relaxed, and amicably professional in the process.
  • - You come equipped with a generous nature, curiosity, and commitment to improvement.
  • You're driven to hit your goals and build rock-solid business relationships, but you often use your killer instinct to know when to lean on your team, and/or when to let the prospect go.
  • Have you got a soft spot for Trello, Intercom, and CRMs, too? You should hit Apply right now.

Founding Lead Backend Engineer - Ruby on Rails

Ingles 14 days

Headquarters: Los Angeles, CA
URL: https://www.washingtonabstract.com/

Who are we?
Our Mission
: Increase government transparency and cultivate a more connected, empowered democratic society through the use of modern technology.

Washington Abstract (WA) is an early-stage startup founded in Los Angeles by three first-generation immigrants, Pat, Matt, and Mo. Each of us come from technical backgrounds and have a shared passion for using technology to foster a community in public policy where resources and research can be shared freely. We also aim to create a community from an engineering perspective: embracing and contributing to open source projects and tools that we will one day spearhead.

We are currently a team of 4 with some part-time help. Our team is small, but we are moving at a fast pace! We believe small, diverse teams working on an important cause can accomplish extraordinary things. We like to deploy features early and often, learning as much as we can in the process. The foundation of our blameless culture is trust in our engineers. We also love to go off on tangents, joke around, or join Zoom calls as ducks or potatoes thanks to Snap Camera. Caring for each other's mental and physical health is our #1 priority. 🙂

Who are you?
We are on the search for a talented Backend Engineer with a positive attitude and experience not only contributing to a product but also playing an active role in determining the product's direction. You're able to write scalable, future-proof, well-tested code that follows our services' design patterns in a fast-paced environment.

You have ideas on how to improve code consistency, maintainability, and efficiency. You leave code better than you found it. You write code that makes the next engineer smile. You are excited to learn new skills and teach other engineers.

You will have an essential role in a small product team consisting of Josh (front-end Engineer), Mo (Backend Engineer & CTO), and Matt (Head of Product & Design) — empowerment, autonomy, and accountability are core values of our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement core features of our platform considering scale and efficiency in our Rails API, where all customer transactions on the platform are processed.
  • Have an active and essential role in defining the product from both a strategy and technical perspective, being present at product planning meetings and making sure that new versions or feature rollouts to the API have well-built technical specification documents.
  • New Feature Development to Maintenance ratio: 85 - 15.

Required Skills
  • 4+ years experience with Ruby and the Ruby On Rails framework
  • Experience with SOA and creating/maintaining microservices
  • Experience developing and consuming internal and external APIs
  • Excellent decision-making and time management skills
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Ability to bear with our obsession of Notion and Zoom (we can't explain it either...)

Bonus points for these skills
  • Experience with Python and/or any of its frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI, etc.)
  • Experience with web scraping and collection using Python
  • Experience with GCP/AWS or similar cloud computing services
  • Experience working on a diverse team
  • Experience considering the impacts of software on multiple communities, including people of color and people with disabilities
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Excellent in creating custom Slack emojis

Compensation
  • Annual Salary of $85,000-$100,000 — paid in bi-weekly installments
  • Favorable equity as employee #2
  • Competitive Perks & Benefits
    • Unlimited PTO
    • Flexible work hours
    • Autonomy and transparency at a high-growth startup
    • Election Day is a paid company holiday
    • Health Insurance
      • Options include Kaiser Permanente or CA Blue Shield

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Washington Abstract embraces diversity, believes in creating a more equitable society, and fosters an environment that engages multiple perspectives and different ideas/individuals in order to define organizational policy and culture.

We are not looking for a "culture fit." Rather, we are looking for someone who is a culture add – someone who can contribute new ideas and perspectives to our community.

About the Position
We are based in Los Angeles, CA, but this will be a remote position until the pandemic permits us to work in-person.

We focus on results, not hours. We believe that clearly defined goals combined with great people, empowerment, and autonomy create the best results.

We're an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.

Project Management. You’re process-oriented by design. This allows you to effectively spearhead and manage complex technical projects, removing any bottlenecks, maintaining key priorities, aligning folks to the right metrics and milestones, all through evidence-based decision making.

That’s a super-brief intro to what you’ll be working on. But first, you need to know if you’ll even like working with us! Let’s talk about life at VergeSense and then we’ll go into more details.

How You’ll Work at VergeSense:

We are seeing first-hand how corporate real estate is here to stay even during the COVID-19 Pandemic, with a growing need for community and social importance centered around the strategic use of office spaces. Within the past year alone, the pandemic has expedited the industry of sensor technology, sales going up 500% (QoQ) as a major product development year while raising $10M to accelerate product development and GTM. We are growing fast to serve the complexity and nuance of needs of continuous onboarding of diverse Fortune 500 companies, which has escalated tremendously during the pandemic.

As we adapt and adjust to challenging environmental factors, we are modernizing an industry where data is manually tracked, static, anecdotal, and incomplete. Our product is both hardware and software, with thousands of % increase in expansion by cohort analysis in the 3 years since our founding, with the SaaS ability to become a standalone product (“data factory’); this is an industry first! How do we do this? We lead with simplicity- from product design, to engineering architecture, to our day-to-day working styles providing increased asset value and a more productive workplace.

You, as the Senior Software Engineer, will come in, hit the ground running by picking up projects, while helping build out the team culture as an early member of an evolving team that is experiencing a major growth period, as each team member is beginning to specialize into sub-teams/pods.

We are working hard to make being an employee at VergeSense an amazing experience and have a small team of truly exceptional people—the kind you’ll be excited to work with. Here’s how we operate:

  • Remote. This will be a full-time, high-impact industry leader role, based in Boston or Minneapolis however, we are open to remote.

  • Compensation. Competitive compensation and equity.

  • Insurance. Employer-sponsored medical, dental and vision insurance.

  • Take Vacation (Seriously). We have an open vacation policy, take time off when you need it!

Who Are You? You Are Our Ideal Candidate If:

  • You have demonstrated hands-on experience with tech stack, feeling comfortable within the software stack. Backend focus is okay, full stack is ideal with as much tech stack overlap as possible (Cannot have front-end only).

  • You have demonstrated hands-on experience within VergeSense commonly used frameworks: Ruby on Rails, React.js and Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud computing platforms.

  • You have demonstrated experience with experience working with databases (i.e. PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MySQL and data infrastructure).

  • You have demonstrated experience with JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, or similar).

  • You have demonstrated hands-on experience with IoT data backgrounds, preferred.

  • You have a demonstrated understanding of CS/CE fundamental concepts and OOP languages. APIs is also preferred.

  • You are VergeSense, you embody and help grow our company values: (humility, approachable, welcoming, transparency, openness and listening skill sets).

  • You are someone who has comfort with ambiguity (i.e. fast paced, start-up environment), you help create the bedrock of a successful team and product growth despite uncertainty and can make sense of the chaos.

  • You are someone that no matter the task or obstacle at hand, you face every challenge with enthusiasm; High Energy, High Ownership.

  • You are a persistent problem solver, being proactive and taking leaps as you jump into challenges with a hands-on approach while you think broadly and strategically

What Success Looks Like:

Within 30-60 days, contribute to a growing company culture as an individual contributor to come in, and pick up projects. This person will drive and have high ownership of the work.
  • Align as an active member between Platform, Integrations and Sensors teams for the hardware and software products. Within each team, coordinate and think broadly alongside a product manager to drive forward the roadmap, providing strategic support, which is likely beyond typical IC. These teams are divided by interests:
  • Integrations (slack, batch data, etc)
  • Data pipeline, large scale IoT data
  • Platform (analytics, separate SaaS product)
  • Sensors/hardware (anything that connects to the other product)
  • 5 digit to 6 digit in shipping / product development push this year

Within 60-90 days, become a leading staff member within the technological and engineering process bringing software/tech stack experience (full stack ideal), with overlap with tech stack as much as possible; backend is okay. You will have become immersed within VergeSense platforms:
  1. React.js, Ruby on Rails, Heroku, a variety of Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies (AWS IoT, Redshift, DynamoDB)

If you’ve read this job invitation and are excited about becoming our newest Senior Software Engineer, please get in touch!

At VergeSense, we don’t just accept differences — we celebrate them, we support them, and we thrive on them for the benefit of our employees, our customers, and our community. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. If you’re good at what you do, come as you are. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. VergeSense is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.

Proactive. Your passion for learning and growing is sparked by a high degree of intellectual curiosity. This pushes you to problem-solve challenges, actively take on new initiatives, and raise your hand on mission critical issues.

Project Management. You’re process-oriented by design. This allows you to effectively spearhead and manage complex technical projects, removing any bottlenecks, maintaining key priorities, aligning folks to the right metrics and milestones, all through evidence-based decision making.

Why Join?

Senior Javascript Engineer

Ingles 18 days

Headquarters: The Internet
URL: https://www.knack.com/

Hi, thanks for reading about our Senior Javascript Engineer opportunity! We're glad you're here.

We're Knack, a no-code productivity platform that’s redefining how work gets done. Knack is used by thousands of customers — from non-profits to the world’s biggest organizations — to run processes, departments, and even entire companies.

We need a brilliant javascript engineer to help us meet the enormous challenges around managing complex data with speed, reliability, and security.

We’re looking for someone who’s not just just an expert in Node and Javascript, but who also cares deeply about code quality and architecture, and enjoys diving into the deep end of challenging work.

And did I mention we're looking for someone who is self-motivated and independent? This is a 100% remote role, with a flat culture that gives you the autonomy to define how you can do the best work of your career.

In this role, you will:
  • Use your JavaScript and Node expertise to secure, optimize, and extend the Knack API.
  • Help solve data-driven problems like caching, version control, batch processing, and real-time concurrency.
  • Leverage your experience building software products at scale to help apply best practices to an extremely challenging problem space.
  • Propose and implement architectural approaches for new features and refactoring legacy code.
  • Improve the quality and confidence of a complex codebase with tests, audits, and performance metrics.
  • Be an inspiring and supportive teammate by participating in PR reviews, pair programming, active feedback, idea generation, teaching, learning, and in general being a delightful human being.

We’re looking for someone who is:
  • A problem solver. You aren't afraid to go deep, experiment, learn on the fly, and do the work.
  • Experienced as a meaningful contributor to a data-driven architecture at scale.
  • Passionate about quality. You do things right the first time by thinking deeply about quality, soliciting feedback, and being test-driven.
  • Humble but opinionated. You have lots of ideas, yet you are happy to shift directions when a better path emerges. You take your work much more seriously than you take yourself.
  • An active collaborator. You want feedback on your work early and often, and you get a kick out of a collaborative process because it challenges you to do better work.
  • Engaging beyond 1s and 0s. You understand that empathizing with our customers, building relationships with your co-workers, and going deep on the product makes you a better teammate and a better engineer.
  • Hungry for meaningful work, and space to do it. Knack is a complex product in a complex space and the work is extremely challenging - but also deeply rewarding. Knack makes a major impact in the work of thousands of companies and organizations.

Our Stack
  • Backend - JavaScript, Node, ES6
  • Data - Both SQL and NoSQL, Postgres, Mongo, Redis, Solr, ElasticSearch
  • DevOps & Deployment - All things AWS, Jenkins, Github
  • Testing - Cypress, Ghost Inspector, Mocha
  • Frontend - Vue.js, Webpack, SCSS

About Knack
Knack makes it easy for anyone to build applications and workflows to make their data useful. Our customers use Knack to run their processes, departments, or even their entire companies.

We've been growing steadily since 2012 as we’ve built our team, perfected our product, and nailed our product-market fit.

So how are we different?
  • We’re bootstrapped: we’ve had to build something our customers actually pay for. This changes how you do things.
  • We’re 100% remote: and have been from the beginning. Every decision we’ve made has been based around optimizing our remote operations.
  • We’re all a little weird: and we like it that way. We’re more than just chat avatars; we’ve all gotten to know each other, have grown together, and love working with each other.
  • We enjoy the journey: we’re in this for the long haul. We’re not chasing an exit or the next round of funding. We’re building something we’re proud of and want to keep improving on.
  • We work out loud: we’re a flat and autonomous culture that demands superb communication, transparency, and consensus.

Benefits & Perks
The biggest benefit is getting to work alongside our awesome team of Knacksters. We’re a funny, humble, talented team of delightful human beings that above all enjoy working with each other, growing with each other, and supporting each other.

These benefits aren't that bad either, though:
  • Define your work: find the location, environment, and schedule that is best for your life and work. It’s not about separation, it’s about optimization. Our only rule is an overlap zone of 11am to 4pm EST.
  • Unlimited Paid Vacation: take the time you need to stay motivated, charged, and balanced. You’ll get required days off for birthdays and knackiversaries.
  • Paid Corporate Retreats: we get together twice a year at amazing locations to do normal human being things in person. We pay for your flight, lodging, and meals.
  • HealthCare: we offer health, vision, and dental, covering 75% of the premium for you and your dependents (spouse + children).
  • Family support: we offer a generous paid family leave to welcome any new additions to your family.
  • Tech: we provide a top-of-the-line PC or MacBook
We are also passionate about learning and professional development. We provide multiple learning opportunities and encourage each other to continuously learn and grow:
  • Long term growth and learning plans, with regular check-ins to help you level up on what's important to you.
  • Have executive-level visibility into how the company is run and performing, including revenue.
  • Use an annual allowance to stay on top of your game with training, classes, books, and workshops.
  • Attend industry conferences that are meaningful to you.

Diversity
We believe that different perspectives and backgrounds are what makes a company flourish. Knack welcomes all applicants regardless of race, gender, orientation, sexual identity, economic class, ability, disability, age, religious beliefs or disbeliefs, or status. We’re proud to be an inclusive company with values grounded in equality and ethics, where we embrace diversity.

How To Apply
Are you currently so excited to apply that you can barely type? Then we want to hear from you!

We review applications in batches, so don't worry if you don't hear from us right away. Qualified candidates will move on to video interviews to discuss the position in detail, meet the team, and talk through the fit. We're also big believers in paid trials whenever logistically possible.

Please note that we can currently only accept applications from those qualified to work in the US.
